How many syllables in the word arsehole?

This has been the hot topic of conversation at work in the last 3 days.  Now we have had people say 2, 3 and 4 rather than just pick one of them please explain how you arrive at your choice!!

arse-hole = 2 syllables.

How on earth can anyone mangle the language enough to get more syllables out of it?

You logical exposition is without fault, so much so I have to agree with you.

I suppose in Jocklish it could be pronounced ar-ris-hole.  But in English, two syllables definitely.

If this is said by a JH girl selling apples and oranges in Dublin theres 3 syllables in it....

e.g. "Sorry love, wheres your bananas?"
JH " Theyre up me hole (pronounce hoe-el)

so arsehole is obviously 3 syllables

It is 2 syllables.
My friend studied English Literature and he teaches english to Chinese and Japanese students coming to the UK to study fulltime here. He sits all the new arrivals round one big table and introduces himself and the course. Last year, he was giving this speech, and told them that he would be leading them for the year. One of the Japanese students laughed uproariously, pointed at him, saying 'YOU ASSO!'. Pardon me? 'You ASSO!', banging the table and laughing his head off. Not being so understanding, he took the guy outside for a 'word', and explained that such language was 'inappropriate' in a university environment. The guy looked totally flumoxed 'You asso! King asso! Lreada! Roun Tabul!'

So, 2 syllables, in any language....
