Playing in the £50 1 r/b & 1a/on at Luton on Monday, down to 3 tables, blinds are 400/800, i have played very tight since the break (about an hour) only showed premium hands etc and winning any showdowns.  I'm in the BB with  . I have 6400 after posting the BB. its folded round to the sb who limps for 400 more, he has been limping from various positions with a wide range of hands, k 10, 76suited utg qj etc. Once he has limped what should i do? all in? check? raise?

cheers

Well you've got less than 10 big blinds so any raise would pot commit you pretty much so it's either all-in or check IMO.

Either play is acceptable but as you're heads-up against a limper a check and then play the flop accordingly may garner more chips if you're prepared to lay it down if a scary flop comes down and he comes out betting.

never check here. i'd be prepared to go all in with any two here unless,

1) the sb is a good experienced player willing to limp in with a big hand to trap
2) the player is a calling station and will call you with any two

Got to shove this, I agree with point 1 that mariners made that if it player who is good and is likely only to limp here with a monster then a check is possibly a good play, even then im not sure i could do it.

Point 2 i will never understand, we have 8 bb's and we worried about a calling station calling a shove with an inferior hand. Wwll that is exactly what we want sb to do, if we are flipping its not too bad but we are often 70/30 even 80/20 if we are lucky. Its all about ranges not specific hands.

You need some value from this hand given your stack, it is massive given the circumstances.  I would raise 1500 more and be prepared to commit on the flop if he calls pre.

I am not a fan of the shove here.

As said before, given your stack size this is your oppotunity to gain chips, and more times than not, the SB will fold to an all in.

I would raise say 2.5xBB more - if he is going to fold to this he will fold to an all in shove.

If he calls, I am also prepared to go all in on any flop (I may check a flop with a 10 on it).

If he re raises, all the better, stick it in.

Shove for me to.  Anytime I ever try and get cute with such holdings I run into raggy aces which always seem to hit the flop and I brick it.

thanks all for the replies. Just for the record i did shove it all in pre-flop as the SB had 10k and i didnt think he would risk almost 3/4 of his chips with kq or a rag ace but as i announced all in his chips beat mine into the middle with  . Not a call i'd make but each to their own etc.....     on the flop and goodnight.

Thanks again.
