Online SNG's
«
on:

I used to do really well on SNG's online esp at the $10, $20 and $30 level. Really built up a great bankroll mainly on pokerstars.
However over the last 6 months i have really just been treading water, not losing but not winning much.
Do others find that its getting harder to win at SNG's?
Is the game getting harder? Are the players getting better? Or maybe its just me and im getting worse!!
Just interested to hear whether people that used to beat the SNG's are still easily beating them.
Its no big deal as my multis and ring game seem fine still - but im just surprised that im not reaching the money in the SNG's like i used to
Look forward to hearing your thoughts
Cheers

Sng's have got harder no doubt especially on the sites like stars post UIGEA. Basically you are lucky to get a table now where there are more than 2 people who don't realise that playing tight earlier is correct. Also ICM has given good sng players a good mathematical model to play to in the late game which means they can play near perfectly.
Im kind of surprised you haven't felt the pinch in MTT's as well though, I think its fair to say your average internet player is far more educated than he was in the past.
Are the games still beateable, of course they are but winrates have been cut and if you don't move with the times a winning players can soon become a losing player.

I loved the comment I saw somewhere 'How to win at poker? Play people who are worse than you' lol. Too true.
I felt very much in your situation about a year ago, I had moved (by accident really, PC problems) to Ultimate Bet. Even with decent structures, I found the game getting harder and harder to beat. Players were acting as a result of understanding elements of my game, and you need to be swift of foot to play against this. Eventually I just moved away from UB (site changes are never a bad thing anyway), and moved back to Party Poker. The SnG blind structures are not the best, but this is compensated for by the atrocious play you find there, actually exacerbated by the blind structures (level 3-4 people just go MAD, if there's anyone left). Even with these blind structures, having patience and the ability to do **** all and not getting needlessly involved, means you are getting down to bubble and beyond very very frequently. For some reason (TV advertising?) Party has always it seems attracted the worst of them. At all levels.
Maybe the US legislation has something to do with it. A glut of decent players having to now find their online home at Ultimate, FullTilt, etc, means the standards will up there. But plenty of fish to be found elsewhere.
Just look out for sites with a lot of dutch players. There be the dead money.

It's likely that someone from a given country will be more exposed than most to live play from their countrymen. If a given style of play starts assuming even a little popularity in that country it seems reasonable that it may spread out quite rapidly into many people's play, and become the dominant style of play in that country. This doesn't preclude the existence of other styles of play in that country.

Heres the truth:
Americans are so far ahead on average its sick
Brits are generally tight
Scandies are scandies, very tough and loose but just too aggressive and tilt like no other
Western europe are just approaching the stage where they are learning how to spell poker.

Pretty much my thinking too. If I see 'italian' or 'french' I tend to lick my lips.

There was an article in PokerPlayer a while back where they asked various pros if the Scando stereotype was justified. Loved Vikki Coren's comment: "Sweden has the highest rate of suicide in the world. If you're prepared choose infinite blackness for eternity you're not going to be that scared by an Ace on the flop.'

I thought japan had the highest suicide rate because they work the longest hours or something.

For an extra 30p you can go large on that meal. You get a bigger drink and more fries.
