Hiding in the air conditioned comfort of the press bar (for this is really what it is - complete with stage at the front of the room on to which I half expect to see John Duthy and the Pokerstars Dancers in cabaret) we see a few players trickling in to mill around a half hour before play starts.

Marc Goodwin was descending the stairs just now, in company with DTD's Dave Colclough and played-yesterday Michael Greco.  I am amazed at the numbers of players who've already spent 12 hours in here coming back when there is a lot of beach and multiple pleasant bars literally seconds away... Ryan Fronda is one of these self-admittedly "suffering from sickness," but he's actually got a purpose to being here today...

Also playing (probably - they're here):  Luca Pagano
Isabelle Mercier
Daniel Negreanu
Doobs
Martin Wendt
Dario Minieri
Iwan Jones
____________________________________________________________

Ten minutes until supposed start, and players are drifting around, the more famous, like Liz Lieu, being interviewed by one of several media outfits with cameras of the moving sort, and the less famous just clumping around the gaming tables or outside the tournament area, where the neat 10k stacks of chips wait by each seat.

Spotted:

Jan Sjavik
Ben Grundy
Praz Bansi
Humberto Brenes
Jonas Molander
Karl Mahrenholz
John Shipley

Meanwhile the cash games, helpfully located at the opposite corner of the casino to the tournament (I seem to remember last year's organisation of the room being somewhat chaotic) look like they haven't wound down since 2am yesterday...a list of around 30 names seems to build for every game by about 7pm and then they get shouted out when their seats become available at a pitch and volume that would make Black Sabbath cringe.
"EEE CEEE HOLD'EM!"  The shouter lurks right outside the entrance to the press room and every time I get caught in the verbal fire I feel like telling them that yes, I am C.V. - where is my seat, here is my money - just don't shout at me any more...

Hamster-sized Daniel Negreanu

Vole-sized Adam Junglen, recently Stars Million winner, TLB winner and maker of a sick call against Patrick Antonius at the Monte Carlo EPT earlier in the year with Ace high on a Q-4-2 that had been 3-bet preflop. He was correct.

Orient Express-sized Johnny Chan. Sans Orange.

Errr..Martin Wendt-sized Martin Wendt. Sans Earphones.

Geordi La Forge Slotboom and I think, Jeff Garza?

Paul Gourlay. He's a Rocket Man. Yes a Rocket Man.

Marcel Luske. Errr, nothing really funny about this one. Bah.

Jon Kalmar had regretted saying, "If I make the WSOP Main Event final, then I'll superglue my hand to my head."

It's not like action isn't happening, but it always seems to be five tables over and two across from where I am watching one of our English players calmly folding...

But there have been eliminations, like the into right near the start, or the first level super-optimistic all-in preflop against (Spiking a Jack and giving the other guy a bad beat story)...

And there's always Marc Goodwin (pictured, along with tablemates Patrick Bueno and Liz Lieu).  He just bet 250 on a threeway flop of , called by Patrick Bueno who had checked before him, and one guy in position on them both.  The turn brought a , checked to In Position Matey, who bet 500, getting rid of Marc but getting a call from the Frenchman.  The river was checked, and Patrick Bueno's was shown the winning hand.

Daniel Negreanu raises to 250 in early postion, Jan Sjavik calls from the hijack, the cut-off and the small blind also call.

Flop:

Daniel bets 800, Jan calls, the other two players pass.

Turn:

Daniel now bets 2,200. Jan moves all-in and Daniel insta-passes. Welcome to the EPT.

In a multi-way limped pot, it's checked to Greg Raymer who bets 1k on the board of three diamonds . One player calls.

Turn:

The caller now bets 1.5k which Raymer quickly calls.

River:

Now the caller checks, Raymer thinks for a second before declaring, "I'm not sure I should bet this." He flips , and his opponent shows . Raymer now has just 3k or so. Which is twice as much as Dario Minieri, languishing on just 1.5k

Any chance of an update on how Dag Martin Mikklesen is getting on? Norwegian internet player who was long time chip leader of the wsop main event this year..... thanks

Jen on the case now, he's sharing a table with Kevin O'Connell and Ben Grundy.

Meanwhile Johnny Chan is amongst the chip leaders. Here's how it happens.

One player limps, Chan makes it 325. A short-stack moves all-in for 850. Now the limper re-raises to 2.3k. Chan calls.

Flop:

Two Diamonds

The limper bets 3.6k, Chan calls.

Turn:

The limper now bets 6.6k and Chan moves in for 12k more. Limper insta-passes. and Chan's A-K holds against the all-in player's A-6. The limper claimed he had 7-7, and a 7 came on the river too...

Rolf Slotboom - "I've folded 46 hands in a row, some with my left hand, some with my right."

Dario Minieri doubles up his meagre stack with against on a board. The young looking Italian has about 3k now.

Big TK comes into his element when one player shoves his stack of 8,225 on a two hearts board. The player next to him apparently throws in 6k and flips over his for the straight, the other player shows for the flush though. The confusion is over whether the player with the straight has called the all-in. Big TK declares that no call was made, but the 6k was put in the pot and by showing the cards, it's then considered a fold.

Finally, here's Javed Abrahams, sitting on 10k.

Jonas Molander, having cut his teeth on the Bellagio Cup III with instant success this summer, returns to the EPT circuit...but is now approaching the felt after an entertaining hand, the first part of which I didn't see - did someone raise preflop?  If so, was it Molander or his in-position opponent?  Anyway, they saw a flop of , and Jonas bet out 550...it was raised fairly rapidly to just 1,200.. re-raise!  The shorterstacked Matey whacked it all in, showing the against Jonas' ...  Hardly even blinking, he paid off the flopped trips as no miracle occurred, allowing just a hint of a wry smile as his calmly tabled Seven-high drew doubletakes from onlookers...

We hear that El Blondie is OUT - pictured here at the start of the day, he wasn't in the danger zone chipwise when I last saw him so something must have happened just after the dinner break.  Michael Greco is in one of those across-the-room cash games and was solicitous concerning Dave's stack last time I walked by... going to have to break him the bad news.

____________________________________________________

We are down one Kevin O'Connell - vs. all in preflop with the most usual outcome... DTD count now two, and both got through yesterday.
