APAT represents several thousand poker players and for the industry to develop in a player focussed way, it is essential that we are able to authoratively work with the leading government and commercial entities of the day.
APAT has spent the last six months building relationships and establishing a presence within the UK gaming industry. It is an extremely traditional industry and will take time to change.
To encourage change in this environment, APAT needs to demonstrate both a strong membership, and an ability to have a commercial impact. I can think of few industries where "money talks" is a more appropriate headline.
With the Amateur Poker Tour, APAT is gaining the ability to utilise our members spending power for the benefit of the major commercial players in the industry. This is a major plus for our Association, and quite unique for any player group in worldwide poker.
There is an incredible amount to do as we approach our first anniversary and through this forum, APAT now invites members to participate in the direction that the Association will take going forward.
So what have we achieved in our first year?
* gained the endorsement of significant sponsors and partners.
* negotiated a tremendous amount of added value for member events.
* removed the registration fee requirement at those events.
* had standardised rules signed off by the Gaming Commission, and used in each of our tournaments in 4 countries, across the leading casino groups.
* increased the profile of several amateur players through significant media reporting online and in print.
APAT will canvass your views and offer voting opportunities on important policy decisions. Members wishing to propose policy can feel assured that well researched, reasoned submissions will be taken seriously and offered to the membership if appropriate.
We look forward to working closely with members going forward.

we'd probably support a boycott of Beijing over the Burma issue.

I think 'arguing about casino opening times for registration for APAT events' is showing lots of promise for being included as an event in the Special Olympics, though.

* gained the endorsement of significant sponsors and partners. TOUR
* negotiated a tremendous amount of added value for member events. TOUR
* removed the registration fee requirement at those events. TOUR
* had standardised rules signed off by the Gaming Commission, and used in each of our tournaments in 4 countries, across the leading casino groups ONLY USED ON THE TOUR
* increased the profile of several amateur players through significant media reporting online and in print. TOUR
dont see what the association has done that doesnt involve the tour
things like advanced publication of schedules and structures, getting the rules of poker standardised accross the board not just on the tour,
yes slowly thins happen but i would like to think that the APA will have a committee and each member could lobby the committee into getting things put into action
the tour is great and the apat is doing great things, but as i have always said that has to be more to the APA than the T

but as argued, the success of the tour is a necessary pre-condition of the Association having influence and effecting change if required

I would have thought that this invite to members would have been more appropriate on the APAT forum?
