Strangest experience

The company I work at is going through one of those "hey guys it's time to reinvent ourselves" moment. As part of this new environment the attitude is now one of to "open up and sense more".

To this end at the end of a long hard day of internal meetings we all got on a bus and got dropped off outside a restaurant in Koln. Having made our meal selections we waited outside in the foyer for Michael our waiter to seat us. He led the first six of us into an ante chamber. In here he explained that the lights would go out and we would be in total darkness. He would then lead us to our table and sure enough we were in total darkness and led to our table. By total darkness I really do mean total darkness. From minute one you could not see your hand even if you were touching your nose. This did not change through the whole evening.

The meal was served in darkness, eaten in darkness, the discussion was in darkness. Immediately you realise certain things change. My sense of smell was immediately heightened. My feeling of isolation even though I was amongst work colleagues was acute particularly when they started conversations in German. The soup course left me wondering how much had gone in my mouth and how much was now down the front of my shirt. The main course came I was now using my hands more and more with pretty much anything that was not in a sauce. The food was of an exceptionally high standard. The conversation was undoubtedly more descriptive as body language had all but gone out of the window. Three hours later Michael led us out of the restaurant. I was back taking for granted what I take for granted every day.

Michael does not have the choice as all the waiters are blind.
I do not have the words to describe my admiration.

I might close my eyes for a bit in burger king to try and replicate the experience for myself.

Must be helping with the diet though, not being able to see the food? They could hide all the food under the table and watch the carnage using an infrared camera in the kitchen.

they say that if you want to lose weight then you should eat blindfolded as you then rely on youir stomach telling you your full not your plate telling you you've ate it all
