I wasn't too harsh - best that non-techy types reading this thread get the message to 'practice safe internet' before they fall victim to something nasty which totally corrupts their machine.

I'm confused now, svchost.exe is part of crucial networking software, i have 5 instances running right now yet these are not trojans/viruses.
So this thread is misleading and incorrect yes?

I imagine the trojan is also called svchost, to make it less conspicuous.

The OP had received false/incomplete information about svchost.exe - and this was pointed out by subsequent posts.  Ecosse's first reply on the thread explains what you should and shouldn't do very succinctly.

So the 'thread' isn't incorrect, although the initial advice from the OP certainly isn't clear and I'd say 'confusing'. 

It shows that you should always check the validity of any virus warnings (and probably via more than one source), as there often appears to be as many hoaxes and misinformation posts as there are viruses.
