The director has basically stated somewhere that Tony didnt get whacked, imo he wants to do a film in a few years to make $$$$$.

Endings to long series are never satisfactory to the fans. Too much hype and expectation is bound to make a finale anti-climaxing. I'm sure Lost will be the same, whatever they come up with. I remember the ending of Twin Peaks left people scratching their heads, but I loved it personally. I don't watch the Sopranos, so can't comment specifically, but I prefer it when the viewer is left hanging rather than have everything neatly packaged for them.

I heard the story on the radio six months ago that US fans were outraged by the non-ending and I thought it must be an over-reaction.

Honestly Snoops, you'd have to see it to understand how bad this ending is. For 10 seconds I thought my Sky+ box was broke. I was fuming.

i agree with most posts that it was a bad ending , so why did the script writer still not put tonys pov and let the viewer see him get whacked, only 1 reason i can think of thats the option of a new series or a film,

Twin peaks was a joke, all the way through you are convincing yourself it was him or her then changing your mind and in the end it wasn't even a character anybody knew!!!

Ok it looks like i'am in the minority but i thought the ending was great, the way the tension was racked up i was truly on the edge of my seat.I'll go with my first impressions that tony didn't die(the lyrics of the song "going on and on and on").It's of course ambiguios but i think we can all agree the Sopranos is one of the best tv programmes ever made,it had it's highs and lows but overall it was compulsive veiwing.

Tony getting Wacked doesn't stop a film!. I personally would love a prequal to concentrating on Tony's dad.

My french ami Benjo gave me the boxset at the WSOP and I've been working my way through it since. I was enjoying every minute of this legendary series and then... the final episode. Ugh! Clumsy, pretentious, anti-climaxal, badly executed... Yuk.

I only saw it yesterday.

To be honest, I think the ending should have you asking, "Wow, does he get shot, or does he survive?" rather than "Was that it? Is the TV broke?" Poor execution in my book.

i think this would be really difficult because what we saw of Soprano Snr during the flashback sequences was that he was a complete psychopath with absolutely no redeeming features whatsoever. And obviously Ma Sopranos was a complete monster as well. It doesnt make for a good story..

A film isn't beyond the realms of possibility, but there really isn't much of a story that could improve on the series, so, what's the point except for money. A series could be done, I guess, but it would need to be a little different somehow to the previous six series - it just can't be more of the same. Personally, I would have liked the son to have been moulded as a replacement for Chrissy. For a moment in the last few episodes, I thought that was the way they were going and the way it would finish, especially when he had lost his direction and started hanging round with those other kids and seeing more and more violence. Thought he was gradually gonna get a hunger for it and see the mafia as his future.
