Well where I used to play in the London spielers if you went skint they used to give you GHM which was at least enough for a taxi.

I guess that was just upmarket..

Was the low turn out for event #1 because it was a rebuy? Freezeouts more popular these days?

Maybe people were still recovering from Waterford or Blackpool?

Last night's £500 FO enticed 64 runners to hand over their readies. Faces I recognised included Thew, Rokash, Colclough, Wernick, Hewston and Kalmar. Good luck to local players Matt Porter, Toni de Cesare and Stephen Holden who were all still in with about 25 left in the early hours.

Speaking to the cardroom staff, they said the festival will not be running next year. They feel particularly aggrieved that the Vic brought forward their £1000 comp to the weekend, effectively killing Walsall's main event which is why it's now on Thursday/Friday. I asked if there was no central management controlling the scheduling of these events, to which the reply was "You'd think so. eh?"

Apparently, instead of the Masters they will be running an increased number of side events during the Grand Prix week, probably extending it to a nine or ten day programme of events.

64 is miserable. Within Grosvenor it seems like the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing

12 players (including yours truly) return at 3:30 this afternoon.

I had the privilege of sharing a table with Matt Tyler and Julian Thew for most of the night, What class acts they really are.

I'm not just referring to poker ability, (we all know how good they are in that department) I mean sheer entertainment value.

Julian raises Matey Boy's blind for the umpteenth time, Matey boy, who is by now becoming very suspicious, counts out enough chips for a call and a re-raise, saying "I don't know who you are, but I can't let you keep doing that"

At this point, Matt picks up a poker mag with Julians picture splashed across the cover, and holds it up in front of Matey's face, Matey flings his cards into the muck immediately.

Priceless!
