I use AOL and have done so for the last 5 years with absolutely no problems (So don't suggest changing my isp, lol)

This morning when I logged on to AOL, it caused my cpu to work at maximum capacity. when I logged off, it returned to normal.

I can open the software with no problems, it only happens when I log on. If I log on from another computer, no problem.

I have re booted my computer and my router.

I have run Add Aware, SpyBot, and Agv anti virus.

I have uninstalled and re-installed AOL

I have done a system restore.

I can use internet explorer and access the net with no problems, all other programmes are working fine.

Any ideas?

Not being funny, but why do you need to open 'AOL'?  For your email?

Because it's my prefered browser, I have all my links, messaging, favorites, bookmarks, emails, etc etc. I don't need to open it, I want to open it.

Even if I never opened it again, I would still want to solve the problem.

is it definately AOL specifically causing the problem?

When you open task manager and select processes what is the image name thats crushing your CPU? click the cpu header and it will order by highest.

And you'll find lots of people with the problem...

finding someone with the solution is a little harder!

Well, as you've isolated the problem it might be worth contacting AOL support and seeing if they can advise.  I've had a look and like Bongo said, lots of people with the same problem and no solutions.

As an aside, if you are at all interested in looking for an alternative browser, I'd recommend Firefox ahead of IE.

I have both IE and Firefox on my computer, pre installed at time of purchase.

I have never used Firefox, what is the difference between the 2 ? Preferably in "simple terms", a lot of these technical questions pass me by completely.

Is that simple enough? Wink
