Limerick sometimes gets a bad press, and you are bound to hear someone refer to is as 'stab city', a nickname earned because it has more than its share of violent crime. However this is pretty much completely confined to ongoing feuds between rival elements in the less well off areas of the city and visitors will find it a very safe place with friendly and welcoming people
