I tried to find a thread on this but i can't see one.

Who else is going? I know the luckbox Julian is going.

Anyone who has been could you tell me what you would recommend for activities and whereabouts the best places to eat are. Im staying at the Riu which is full board but i'd like to eat other places obviously.

Thanks,

Dan

All the hotels on paradise island are relatively isolated away from each other and complexes in their own right. If you want to go elsewhere Nassau is a short cab ride over the bridge and there are plenty of restaurants and bars etc for a half decent night out over there. There is also a small shopping complex next to the Riu (I think) that has a couple of cafes and restaurants (an Italian).

There are alot of good restaurants at Atlantis especially down at the marina but most of them are horribly expensive. I've been to a few of them and if I'd go back to one it would be the steakhouse down at the marina (can't remember name), it was very nice but pretty expensive and you need to be dressed smartish. If your looking for something cheap and cheerful whilst playing poker at Atlantis there is a place down the bottom of the steps at the marina on the right that does slices of pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salad etc at sensible prices, you can also order from the room service menu whilst playing poker and the food is reasonably good.

Activitieswise the stuff I've done that was worth doing is scuba diving which is excellent in the Bahamas. You can also go diving with reef sharks whilst they feed them which is pretty exciting, but you need your PADI license to do that. I also did a power boat trip to a private island which is really cool if youv'e never been on a power boat before. I also played golf but found if to be really expensive and the courses were ok but not really worth the money. You've obviously got the casino at Atlantis but the minimum bets are quite high $15-20 I think, for a cheaper night at a casino you could get a cab (20 mins) over to the crystal palace casino which has $5 minimums and they also spread 1/2nl holdem and you won't have to wait as long as you will at Atlantis to get a game.

If your not flying direct and coming through Miami as many of the flights do, when you get to miami get your bags checked in early if you have time. Basically all the locals from the Bahamas take day trips to Miami to go shopping and come back with TV's, microwaves, DVD players and eveything else you can possibly imagine. As a consequence the baggage hold is always full and they always have to leave bags behind to come on a later flight, the locals know this so they check in early and its normally the tourists bags that get left behind LOL. So your bags may come in on a later flight or even the next day, they will deliver them to the hotel but they don't appear in a hurry to do it and its still a pain in the ass.

Hope this helps

There is a market in the old cargo sheds by the docks in the town centre - fantastic for all copy handbags and anything else designerish. The locals eat at what looks like a greasy spoon type cafe just around the corner from the Hilton hotel on the main road - I think it's called something liek the lobster pot - it's good honest bahamas food and good value.

Best food ever - in the entire world - is the belgium restaurant - I kid you not - a short walk away from the town hall down a side street. The steaks are melt in the mouth delicious, comes on a wooden platter with frites to the side and a gravy to die for. It may not sound like a lot but I challenge you to find a better steak and frites this side of the universe. Also good price (for the Bahamas).

Do beware though - the Camels missus was robbed with the baby wrapped round her in it's pappouse in broad daylight just near the Hilton. They were after her camera which was around her neck - they pulled her and the baby to the ground - it was terrible. Keep all valuables out of sight.

In the Atlantis one of the better restaurants was the one in the middle of the pool - sheltered but in the open air. Otherwise the one called the 'market place' I think is a good one - massive buffet and you can reload as many times as you like. There is always a queue for that though.

If you can - try and get a boat trip out to one of the islands - they are beautiful and the dolphns often swim alongside.

Have a great time.

Absolutely ludicrous - all these well known players trying to big it up against the others, loving the attention as they are watched by all us average joes, thousands being pushed in. At one point they ran out of chips......

There is no poker in the Atlantis - any poker action takes place in the ballroom where the comp is - all run by pokerstars. Extremely well done, the sit and go's were quite soft, get you name down early though - they fill up and the waiting list is miles long.

And yes - go and see the aquarium - awesome.

Not bad but there are easier games to be had TBH, I played 10/20nl for the week last time and made a decent amount but a couple of flips the other way and it could have been a different story......... There will be a lot of 18 year old american kids who are pretty high online players but can't play elsewhere in the states so they fill their boots in the Bahamas just because they can. Also the side tourneys are a bit of a crapshoot just because of the sheer number of players and the pressure to finish in a day.

As it turns out I'm now gonna be in vegas that week now because I'm working in washington for a few days, it would be daft not to go whilst I'm 80% of the way there anyway thumbs up
