Ok If I am on a draw an my chances of hitting it are 4 to 1,
should I only bet a quarter of the pot ?
Or bet 4 times the pot ?
Or bet only a quarter of my stack ?
And is the word equity something to do with this ?
Confused.com did not help, but I got a free pen
Erm im so getting levelled here i think.
Anyway poker is so situational that the answer to the question of what to do with a flush draw or an Open ended straight draw it depends. Most of the bets i make are around 2/3 to 3/4 of the pot, irrespective of having a made hand or draw.
If you think you can your opponent to fold alot of the time, betting is a good option as we win the hand alot there and then. If we get called we can still make our draw. If our opponent is a calling station, then it can often be a better idea to check/call and hope to get there and stack him with correct implied odds
Equity can mean different things in poker, but general refers to how often something will happen.
PM Kev for a free blonde pen imo.

It is the amount to which you are 'in the hole' to your staker, which the staker is entitled to before you can take profits.
For example, you start being staked at 50/50 and burn up $1000 of buyins with no cashes.
You are in $1000 of makeup.
You then cash for $6000.
The first $1000 of the cash goes towards paying off your makeup (ie you get none).
The remaining $5000 is split 50/50.
So out of the $6000, you get $2500 and your backer gets $3500.

Which seat position is "the hijack"?
I'm guessing one before the cut off but could be horribly wrong.
I know we've got SB, BB, UTG as the early positions then CO, Button as the late ones. Obv hijack slots in between somewhere.
Also are there names for the other position or are they just general "mid positions"

Yes, the hijack is the one before the cutoff.
I vaguely remember trying to start a campaign on a blonde update to get the seat before the hijack called something stupid ('suitcase' or suchlike) but given that even I can't remember what it was suggests the campaign wasn't all that successful.
Don;t know of any other names for the remaining positions.

ICM. What is it? When and why should I be using it? How much edge does one in the know of ICM have against me in STT's? Or is it just another justification for bad beats/suck outs? (jk) Is playing the cards/situations/players simply not enough to beat SNG's in the long run?
Hmmm don't know how I missed this but i clearly did.
ICM = Independent chip model, it is a way of measuring your equity (the value of your chips) in a tournament, in relation to the prize pool. Most commonly it is used in sngs as a way of measuring mathematically where to go all in or fold is the correct play.
A player playing ICM perfectly has a considerable edge over you, especially in quick formats of the game where the stacks become shallow (less than 12bbs)quite quickly.
ICM is a mathematical formula that allows to use the information at our disposal, our cards, stack sizes and position to asses which is the best play. For further practice I would recommend sngwiz (
www.sngwiz.com
), which is an ICM calculator.
