car insurance costs? group 18

Good grief, is "cheapest" the only criteria by which to book Car Insurance? Does "best" not count as a criteria any more, or do we say "it's cheapest, & therefore best"?

So we save £40, & then all get on our high horses when they offer poor service or some dodgy "small print" after we've had a prang?

with car insurance, I would say cheapest is pretty much the guiding factor.

most policies are much the same as the next one, since about 90% of the market is owned by about 4/5 major financial institutions.

So if most policies end up being re-insured with the same few major Insurers, who all charge much the same, and one of the front end Insurers is offering "the same for less" does it not suggest that if we pay less, then we must be getting less?

Actually, they weren't that cheap! I've been stung by cheapie insurance in the past, and now by more expensive too!

Kin how much are you saving by having it as the wife's car (I take it you are added driver?..does your wife still have her own car as well?..and what the hell are you driving that's a group 20? ABMW 735 and Jag xj6 are only group 18

if you are looking to insure a jag which is more than 5 years old, then get yourself a membership to the jaguar enthusiasts club (about 40 quid), and then get a quote from footman james insurance. They will do newer jags on a classic type policy, which will be much cheaper.

That's a good point also.  I'm a member of an owners club, and for £25 a year, I get more than that off my insurance!  Also, if you're in the owners club you can ask on their forum for advice and people will tell you their stories of who they've used and how they've faired with them - hence Laz's recommendation for Footman James (how posh are they?).

rookies is only group 9 and a tad over £2k for 10 months cover i believe.......ouch!

How many cars has he pranged?! Mine is group 8, in my first year it was £720 with no 'No claims', 3rd year now its about £500

pranged none yet but its brand new and he only been driving 6 months

hehe..no TK, even though i am a penny pincher I will go for a decent insurance..stil saving a few 100 makes a fair bit of difference.
