I need to bring things up to date a little on the poker front.
I have thought for some time that online tournaments are getting tougher and tougher, and imho it’s very hard to make a living that way these days. So during the last month or so, I’ve been having a serious bash at online cash. I tried it once before, but I was playing short handed, and it didn’t really suit my style.

This time I’ve stuck to full ring, 10 seat 2/4 and 3/6, playing a maximum of four tables, and it seems to be going much better. I really would like to make a living playing mainly online cash because it allows me to have more of a life outside poker. With cash, I can play for a few hours when I want to, instead of having to stick to a rigid schedule. This month (When I say this month, I mean the last 4 weeks or so) I am about £2k up, plus a nice little “Loyalty Bonus” If I can average something like those figures long term, I will be more than happy.

I will still continue to play online tourneys, but I won’t feel compelled to do so, meaning I will enjoy them more. Well that’s the theory anyway. I’ll let you know how it goes, but if my next post says “Bollocks to online cash!” don’t be surprised. 

I haven’t played much live poker lately, but I did play the monthly £300, and the Sunday £100 last week at DTD. These tournaments suit me down to the ground; the blind structures allow so much play. They are more like festival events than regular comps, no need to gamble it up and get involved early, but you try telling those Notts boys that.

When I first played at DTD, I thought I had just happened to draw one of those “Mad” tables that you get occasionally. You know the sort, 5000 chips, blinds 25/50, and the opening bet is 600 AND gets 5 callers!   

Like I said, I thought it was just one of those lairy tables, but the next time I played, and the time after that, it was exactly the same. Those Notts boys really are something else.

My somewhat conservative style of play just doesn’t work under those circumstances. If I raise with a premium starting hand, I get 5 callers. Someone is going to out flop me. If I try to see a flop or two with a speculative hand like suited connectors or a small pair, I have to pay through the nose for the privilege, and it bleeds chips away at an alarming rate.

I came up with a plan.

Last Sunday, I almost never raised, (raising just encourages them) instead, I re-raised…a lot!

It didn’t do my nervous system any good, and most of the time, my buttocks were squeezed together so tightly that you couldn’t get a fag paper between them. It felt like I was careering down a mountain in a car with no brakes, but at least I was in the drivers seat, wrestling with the wheel.

It was a thrilling ride, can’t wait for next Sunday. I can hear the tyres screaming already!

Red if that was the second edition of the story the first edition must have been even more gut wrenching! I have gone from so proud to shattered in one week red good roller coaster this one!

I've got the dreaded lurgy for about the 4th time this year, I feel as rough as a bear's arse!

I put on my saddest face and my croakiest voice and told Mrs Red that I was reluctantly going to cancel my trip to Equal Chance at Walthamstow. "Just as well" She replied, "You agreed to go out to dinner in Matlock with Siobhan and David tomorrow night"

Red, hoping for some advice here if the Lurgy's not laid you low.

THe folk's new pup Kerry has been a wild wee thing, but fairly obedient, learning not to go in the front room very quickly, not going out of the gate if out on her own in the garden etc, but the last week she's discovered rabbits & seems to have gained the confidence to go streaking off into the distance to look for them, not caring if we're shouting for her to come back.

This isn't being helped by my Dad's bad leg which is reducing his mobility so the wee terror knows she can outmanouvre him.

Any advice as it's got the folks pulling their hair out.
