Quotes from the article......
"Meanwhile, from this summer Flybe will offer courses covering the work of cabin crews,
engineers
, call centre staff,"
"Network Rail will offer courses up to A-level or Diploma standard mainly to their
track engineers
at first."
Have I missed something or does this mean that the engineers in these companies, which one would assume have responsibility for safety, all left school without said qualifications
(Can you hold a hammer ? OK you're hired)

For a lot of these people that work in fast food establishments such as McDonalds, Burger King, KFC and the like, this is their 1st step into the big wide world of employment and "adulthood". Whilst I agree alot of them have the normal "kevin and perry teenage attitudes" I think that encouragement and guidance goes alot further than mocking them for working in such places.
Just my opinion.

Sounds like the companies are aiming the courses directly at their needs instead of taking people with standard qualifications. I did an HND in Telecommunications Engineering that had been created and run by the telecom company I joined, meaning it was a bit more specialised to their systems.
This isn't exactly new xcept I'd imagine the companies involved will be paying less and the governement making more of a contribution.

It's not about making fun of those that work there, I have nothing against anyone, but it's just another buck being passed along the line of education. People can be snobby about what universities people have been to, imagine telling them you have a McDonalds qualification!
I don't see how it's the roll of private companies to offer qualifications. Fair enough if it's only good within the company group, but exams and qualifications are given and issued by bodies with an impartial approach.
