Its probably been said before but why is this club not in Glasgow? Smiley

I went down on the 9th feb and had a very relaxing night. I had won dtd vouchers from the Blonde tourneys so I paid into the game using them. I emailed Paul Jackson who very kindly sorted the vouchers out and booked my table at the A La Carte restaraunt....yum yum I love good food and the Scottish chef did not disappoint. I had the homemade herb gnocchi with a rich tomato passata, charred asparagus with butternut squash foam. It's the best gnocci Ive ever eaten. Brad and a lovely woman I met had prime fillet mignon with wild mushroom ragout, onion and thyme purée and hand cut chips. Not my cup of tea but they both loved it. Normally I don't have a dessert but due to the impression the main course had on me and the space I had left in my belly, I went for the lemongrass and mandarin orange cheesecake with stem ginger syrup..... for all you sweet fans, this isn't to be missed Smiley I was also advised by Maggie, the assistant general manager that she had been stealthfully eating her way through the entire sweet menu, just to sample it of course Smiley  I would fully recommend eating there and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. The place will be a success in its own right when the word gets out. People travel to eat good food and  I guess there will be demand from non poker players very soon.

The club -  it's been said many times - it's a top class venue and better than the Vegas cardrooms. Its spotlessly clean and the staffing levels are very impressive, as is the service. In Vegas you sometimes need to look for a valet, here there is one to hand actively seeking to service you with a smile Smiley

The staff - the first guy I met knew I was coming and was expecting me (sorry I cant recall your name) He was very pleasant and friendly:) Then I met Maggie the Asst GM. This lady knows her customer service and I liked her attitude. We were talking about how she came to work at dtd and I can see why the club would want her. She told me she must be able to do a bit of everything so if the cleaner doesn't turn up, she would get the sleeves rolled up and start in the ladies Smiley I liked Maggie, my kind of woman with her feet planted firmly on the ground. A very sociable respectful person who I would like to meet again Smiley

I was very impressed with Simon/Aces - there was a university tournament on and he was on the Mic doing the hyping up and making everyones night. Those young men at the final table must have thought they were stars as they heard Simon giving commentary on their play and the excitement he built up was very special indeed:)

The rest of the staff were all were all very good with customer service too. Everyone had smiles on their faces and were ready for a little banter, keeping it professional at all times:) I need to give a special mention to the doorman who called me a taxi Smiley I don't know his name but the laugh I had with him was great:) A real belly laugh with the shoulders going...lol. Then his partner in crime came out and they had a human beat box and rap session Smiley That was fun and they obviously enjoy their work and keeping the punters amused Smiley hehe.

The poker - I didn't last very long in the game and I was sober. My play was over tight because at the back of my mind, I didn't want to go all the way from Glasgow just to be put out. I played a couple of Stts and chopped one with 2 students. I took £80 and they got £60 each. They were both chuffed to bits at their cash Smiley I met a lot of good people at the tables and had a laugh with them all. I didn't hear any bickering but I did want to tell one guy off for smashing his chips together constantly. If there are chips on the chips (lol) then I'll bet this guy caused them!  He was nice too but obviously had a destructive streak in him?

Thanks to all the staff and players for making my night. I'm coming back for sure as the place is top class and it feels so big and airy.  I only met one blonde, Newportlad who was  lovely and he did better on the poker than I did. Sorry for not saying goodbye Darren but after I got put out, I decided to have some Brandies on the rocks (lovely brandy glasses too Smiley  )  so my attention turned to the Stts and the instant gratification of the fun on the tables:)  I see you cashed anyway from the site Smiley Well done Smiley

If you've not been, theres no excuse!! Remember to make time to eat as you wont regret it Smiley

well I'm glad it's not in Glasgow!  I can't wait to go back there after first visit earlier this month.  In a way I'm pleased it's not on my doorstep or I'd struggle to keep out of the place Smiley  Hotel already booked for 1st March Smiley

This isn't related at all to DTD, but if you are looking for somewhere decent to stay, don't pick the riverside travelodge. Its not very pleasant even as a room to crash in. Its got rubbish lying about outside the reception and old ciggy butts and the reception wasn't staffed. You can't check in til 3pm or 2pm if you pay an extra tenner and there was vomit in the lift Sad Do I need to say more? Breakfast was straight out of the fridge in a plastic bag and consisted of a banana, value yogurt and cereal bar and a stale croissant with a carton of value apple juice....lol  I like to stay in a place that gives you at least a bar of soap and gives you confidence to walk on the floor bare footed. I wont be back there. Pity DTD cant build an accommodation wing at the back of the club:) Even though thats the worst 'hotel' Ive even stayed at barring a dodgy one in Paris I went to years ago when I was back packing with some pals, it didn't take the shine off the night Smiley

Oh yes and when you navigate your way back to East Midlands airport, avoid the blonde with a tongue of spite and intimidation who staffs security!! You know you need to put toiletries in little plastic bags so security can look at them to make sure you don't have liquids that make explosives?  Well I had kept my little bags from Glasgow airport and was more prepared for the Journey back. I had everything in 3 little bags and most of it wasn't liquid but some powers, perfume and make up. I thought I'd put them in too as maybe explosives could be made from a powder/liquid combo so I was being a good citizen Smiley Anyway, I got to Ms Scary and she proceeded to ask how many people I was travelling with - 'theres 2 of us' I said and one bag belongs to him!! lol.  'only one bag per person' she said and she proceeded to launch into a lecture. I told her that i could fit the 3 bags into one by taking out the non liquid and that set her off. She said this is about cabin weight and I was only allowed 2. I said okay but it wasn't about weight, it was about the risk of carrying liquids to make explosives. She was fuming and told me that if I continued to challenge her she 'wouldn't be so easy' on me. I asked her to clarify what she meant as I wasn't doing anything except telling her that taking liquid into a the cabin wasn't about weight. For example if I had a laptop with me this would be heavier than a bag of liquid! Anyway, she got angrier and angrier and more intimidating. I told her to get her manager and explained to him what happened. She flipping denied saying that she could have been hard on me (for what FFS?) I told the manager that I understood that he would have to protect a member of staff and taking my work might be difficult. He said he would have a quiet word so it didn't happen again. Staff with jobs like this should have assessment on a regular basis so the power doesn't go to their heads. Be easy on me?? Who the hell is going to be spoken to like that? Basically she was saying I shouldn't be challenging the fact that she was talking rubbish and should keep my mouth shut!  Anyway I proceeded to the departure lounge wondering when security would be collecting me for my rubber glove examination!! Luckily it didn't happen .....lol. Just as well there was some shops to spend money in and some massage chairs to chill me out. I was raging!!  My friend who worked at an airport once told me if customers were rude (and i wasn't being), she would do a quick call to security and get them to give the passenger a grilling......... I don't like to think people behave like this but I know they do.......... its a shame but even that didn't take the shine off my DTD experience Smiley

We stayed at the Holiday Inn last time - would recommend it next time you go down - nice and clean and a lovely cooked brekkie Smiley

Jurys is good ... not if you are driving though ... car park is half a mile away and extortionate !! And its right next to train station.

THe apartment hotel by the ice-rink is pretty good as well - a bit more room if you're there for a while, and not too dear - still taxi-ing everywhere from it though.

Re hotels

I use the Park Plaza on maid marion way , not walking distance but only £4-5 in a taxi

It's a decentish 4* hotel

Now the good bit, if you go on lastminute.com and select the 4* mystery hotel ( the one listed as 20yds from tales of Robin Hood ) you get the PP but for a cheaper rate ( usually £57 for a Saturday night )

also park in the St James car park across the road, take your ticket with you and give it to the receptionist when you check in, they run it through a machine which gets you about 5 quid off the car park charge

oh and there is a Weatherspoon pub round the corner for a decent 3 quid brekkie

Don't say I don't look after you folks Wink  Cheesy

Hi  all,
We are currently organising a raiding party to DtD and have provisionally booked the Days Hotel Nottingham to stay.
I would be grateful if anyone with any experience (good or bad) of this hotel could let us know their views

Thanks , Colin
