Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen Day 1b - At A Glance
«

Welcome back for Day 1b at the Copenhagen Casino! I have a head cold and am currently situated under a duvet at the Comfort Hotel, drinking one of those funny water-soluble orange-flavoured vitamin cocktails and waiting for Jen to bring me coffee from the lobby, but come 2pm we will be all bright and chirpy down at the Radisson, ready to update levels 1 through 8 in a weird Groundhog Day kind of way.
Familiar faces expected today include the Rutter, Andy Black, Roy Brindley, Liam Flood, Marc Goodwin, Tony G, Jeff The Jaffacake Kimber, Steve Jelinek; in fact, all of the people in this here list which Taximan alphabetized for us, thanks very much.

And the cards have indeed made it into the air and probably back down to the felt already by now. We're off to find some entertaining stories...

Yes indeedy, hoodie of the day is very special and will be with you shortly, it's just a-loading right now.
In the meantime,
BRITWATCH
and we're down a man already.
Somehow finding himself down to 1200, Marc Goodwin shoved to a raise from the below gentleman, one Uffe Holm of Denmark. Mr Holm apparently lost some sort of wager, and as a result will be known for the rest of this EPT as Elephant Man. Hard luck, Mr Holm. But also hard luck Mr Goodwin - racing his pocket Sixes against Elephant Man's K-J, a King on the flop meant that raising with K-J offsuit and subsequently calling the shove paid off for Elephant Man. Tusk, tusk.
Sorry, ivory'll bad headache now.

Steve Jelinek - 7,300
Josh Gould - 10,000 on the nose
Elephant Man - just 2,875 somehow, in spite of knocking out Marc Goodwin

Arnaud Mattern - 5,125
Jeff Kimber - 17,200
Roy Brindley - 3,050
Tony G - apparently OUT

This gent, awesomely named Charles Furey like out of a 70's punk band (Dana thought Porn Star/Action Hero) is your early chip leader with almost 30,000. That's pretty good going. Honestly this photo represents the largest proportion of his face I could snap as he seems to spend most of his time looking downwards intensely. Pretty cool Escher-y hoody too - but you can't win more than one blonde title per day, it just wouldn't be fair.
Other counts:
Table Kimber
Nicholas Dervaux - 18,400
Kenneth Raun Hemmingsen - 975
Nedzib Suman - 5,300
Gunnar Rabe - 12,000
Jeff Kimber - 17,000
Christian Grundtvig - 8,100
Patrik Andersson - 15,200
Peter Bregnhøj - 10,200
Said El Mekki - 5,225
Erlend Melsom - 9,225
Table Extra UK player - Mr. Trevor Lawson!
Hristo Genov - 12,000
Bernd Monsma - 10,250
Peter Davidsen - 11,550
Sebastian Zink - MOVED/OUT
Jan Walther Lund - OUT
Roger Archtander - 7,450
Mike McDonald - 11,000
Trond Sundby - 9,500
Ståle Mortensson - 15,500
Ole Busborg - 13,800
Trevor Lawson - 10,100
Table I might have got these counts out by one place, sorry... Seats 8-10 definitely right though
Katja Thater - OUT/MOVED
Peter Hendriks - 10,700
Søren Kongsgaard - 4,500
Cristiano Blanco - ??
Almira Skripchenko - 12,000
Johannes Korsar - 8,300
Joris Jaspers - 11,150
Haward Speer - 13,700
Stuart Rutter - 11,000

OK how about a hand?
None other than Tom McEvoy is involved here - for those that don't recognise him he's the distinguished-looking white haired gentleman on the leftish of this picture, sporting Team Pokerstars gear today.
He re-raised preflop on the button to 1,000 after Nedin Musa had initially shown interest... but when it got back to Musa he upped it to 3,000. A pretty swift call from McEvoy later and they were looking at a flop of
. Musa bet out 5k and McEvoy passed sharpish. Then Peter Hedlund - the blurry guy in blue - resumed talking (he'd briefly paused during the hand and to drink some beer) saying, "I should have pushed! Flopped a set!" before continuing to drink beer and talk a lot.
Arnaud Mattern is also on that table in seat 5 (you can just make out an ear and a bit of brown T-shirt) so I've added a pic of him for no particular reason. Musa is the guy on the left, here though.

I have to say, it's a bit slooooow and a bit not much fuuuuuunnn out there. By which I don't mean everyone's in a terrible mood and there's a bad atmosphere. Everybody seems fairly content. It's just, nobody seems to be talking, or otherwise interacting, or having a good time. Take this hand from Table Rutter, for example.
There's a flop -
Joris Jaspers doesn't do anything for a little while. Nobody speaks. Then he bets 1000.
There's a pause. Not a pregnant pause, more a pause of polite contemplation. Then
Cristiano
Blanco
raises to 2200.
Everyone looks at the felt. Then, after a decent interval, Johannes Korsar calls. Eventually Joris Jaspers passes.
The dealer waits until he's absolutely certain that everyone has acted, and then deals the
turn. Both remaining players ponder this for a moment, and then check.
Now the dealer carefully places the
river in its proper place next to the turn card. Blanco thinks about it. He checks. Korsar is now not sure what to do. He considers his next move, in silence. Everyone waits patiently. Finally, he decides his move. He bets 2500.
Now the action is on Blanco again. He doesn't know what to do. He looks down at the felt. He licks his lips, and apparently counts to somewhere in the region of 40 or 50 before he acts. He silently passes.
GAHHHHH!
By the way, the Rutter has a dirty stack.
But he assures me that he has 11.5k, and is happy.

French Counts:
Arnaud Mattern - 4,525
Renaud of Dammartin (aka Raynald I)- no show
Paul Testud - 8,600
Nicolas Levi - 27,000 He seems to have taken all of France's luck today and spun it into some nice chip towers (I especially like his hoard of green 25 chips).
Here pictured are the four middle seats on what looks to be a pretty tough table: William Thorson, Nicolas, Mikke Norinder and Paul Testud.

Of course, there is the exception that proves every rule, and that exception is Table Levi/Norinder/Testud.
Nicolas Levi raises in early position, and Micke Norinder calls. Levi eyes him up. "I have the distinct feeling that you like me," he says. "I do like you, man," says Micke, but neither of them seem to want to get more involved than that at this stage. Paul Testud also calls, and so does Bjorn Agertved.
Flop -
Nicolas bets 1200. Micke, probably because he likes him, calls. Paul Testud gets out of the way. Now Agertved dwells, boringly. Oh no, think I, it's going to be like every other hand I've watched, where everyone dwells for ages and nothing at all happens at the end of it. Then Agertved goes all in for 6325 total. Oh ok, think I, everyone's going to fold now. Now Nicolas Levi goes all in too, for loads!
Now Nicolas' new friend Micke lets out this kind of weird guttural groany scream like probably the sound that Vikings used to make when they were just about to rape or pillage. "WUUEEOOOOOEEUUUUUURRRRRR! That was my move!" says he. He thinks about it quite seriously for a moment, but gets out of the way.
Levi -
obviously, what with that early position raise and everything
Agertved -
Turn -
River -
Agertved is OUT. So there you go. Who'd've thunk it.

Roy Brindley, pictured here somewhat depressed after sinking to just 4k at the break, might be in a better mood now having doubled up with
on a Q-J-xxx board against Pascal Perrault's A-Q. As it was he said it was a good thing I was taking his picture as he might be out any minute etc. etc. before describing the last fifteen minutes of play before the break as 'torture.'
Oh, sorry - Marc just told us that his brief resurgence in chips is over and he's now OUT - Ski-outfitted Rolf Slotboom his assassin, mainly.

By the way, a few bits and pieces we established before the Betfair conference...
Andy Black was up to 13k, but ran his pocket Kings into a neighbour's Mighty 6-7 Offsuit and is long gone.
Steve Jelinek is no longer in his seat, and seeing as his orange t-shirt is nowhere to be seen, we're assuming he's gone.
Big stacks include one Roger Johannessen.

Just bumped into Stuart Rutter, who tells me that he's been having a pretty good time of it and is up to 23k.

The below gent, who reminds me a bit of Bill Bailey but is in fact called Luoto Sakari and is an online qualifier, doubled up courtesy of the gent below him whose name I don't know.
Sakari -
Mateyboy -
All in on the flop of a
board.
