I'm in seat 4, £1/£1 blinds NLHE. Seat 6 has made it "£8 blind" pre deal so there are £1 +£1 blinds £2 straddle and £4 straddle in the pot as well. The action goes:

Seat 7 Limp call £7 (£1 blind) He has £300 behind and is a loose aggressive but good player
Seat 8 Limp call £6 (£2 blind) He has £35 behind and is a total fish
Seat 1 Limp call £8 He has £150 behind and is even tighter than me
Seat 2 Limp call £8 He has £25 behind Fish #2
Seat 3 Limp call £8 He has £80 behind So fishy he has gills
Me Seat 4 I have £190 and look down to see

Seat 5 still to act has around £50 and made it £4 blind

Seat 6 still to act and has £200 and is quite good and can make big laydowns.

Pot size now £60 before I bet. How much do you bet?

With two fish and two loose agressives? £50.

Can a 3rd player straddle out of interest?

Bet the Pot

two reasons

a) you are going to get called, probably in multiple spots once the first couple call...so pump it as much as poss

b) If no Ace comes, you can pump again in position and then walk home when a fish hits two pair with something like J8  Cheesy

normally i would bet pot but seeing as it is November which for me is 1/2 Pot month my answer stays at £30. March would be 2x  Pot in NL games for those taking notes.

i move all in - you would be hapy to take down a £60 pot there and then and if you make it £50, get called and an Ace flops you just dont like it. - i would predict from the action that no-one that has already acted has AA. - you have the best hand, make em gamble and pay to catch up.

This was only the second time I had played NLHE cash in my life. I never play it on line and its usually Dealers Choice at Notts.

So I made a bad play, I raised £10 Sad. All passed apart from seat 8 and seat 2 who were both short stacked.

All the rest went in on the flop. The result is immaterial. My aim was to try and get the larger stacks in and move in on a flop without an ace on it? Hence the small bet. Obviously that didn't work Sad

Raising more would likely thin the field out even more.

I wouldn't like too many callers with KK, especially not deep stacked ones - post flop it's hard to win a big pot but easy to lose one.

Also in this case a £60 pot is quite big for this limit (£1 blinds) and I would be happy to take it down there and then with a big bet preflop.

Agreed. With overpairs post flop in cash games, it's usually big risk for (more often than not) small reward. (Unless you run into a smaller overpair or top pair w/top kicker type scenario)

Even if the big pre flop bet doesnt take it down at least you have a better pot to win if you do get called. Smiley

I would bet the pot too. I wouldn't want to give those fish the opportunity to call cheaply and outdraw me.

Do you not think that there could be an argument for raising more than the pot?

If not, why not?

(I'm curious to see what people think)

First time round I misread and thought it was PLHE, It almost exclusively being PL cash I play

Now I know it's NLHE, I would go all-in....I would think I would get at least one FISH caller, but not more than a couple. If an A comes, so be it

but I am getting a huge pot built pre flop with the best hand....long term, that's going to pay
