Two Monitors or One??
«
on:
March 24, 2008, 07:01:04 PM »
I have been playing poker on my laptop since i started out however I am going to invest in a desktop next month, I was thinking about buying 2 19" monitors however am now thinking a 24" monitor would be better, i'm playing 12 tables at the moment. I cant make up my mind so was hoping for a few opinions! I would also like to know if anybody has any recommendations for what type of system to go for, I will be using the computer for poker and possibly the odd DVD.
Sorry for another computer based question!

Hi mate,
I had two 19 inch ones and recently got two 24 inch ones and its diff class really, ive never more than 4 tabled on one monitor so cant comment on what its like to 12 table but 4 tables fits perfectlty onto one monitor at regular size so you would easily 8 table at regular size on two screens.

Thank you mate, so you think that 24" is the way to go? Its what i'm leaning towards to be honest. I think i'm going to go to my local computer man to sort it as I dont want to be putting money into the pocket of PC World etc, he might have some advice for me!

yes 24 is the way to go. I did exactly what you are suggesting and just told the bolke what I wanted and he fitted it all up. Get the set up so you use one mouse to operate both screens too.

The decision would also depend on what resolution your graphics card and monitors are capable of outputting at.
For instance the max resolution for a typical 19" monitor is 1440 * 900, so two would give a total of 2592000 pixels.
A typical 24" will have a max resolution of 1920 * 1200, so would give a total of 2304000 pixels. However if you only have an on-board graphics card then you might not be able to set the monitor at the max resolution, so may only be able to have 1440 * 900 max, which is obv no better than the 19".
My advice would be to decide what you would rather have and then make sure that what you buy takes best advantage of that situation.

Problems like this come up, just add another graphic's card.
I've posted this before, but this system runs off ONE card, which was not that expensive (£500 odds).
Each monitor runs at 1280 x 1024, that's some serious poker playing real estate.
I wrote the software that's running. It's a single app that controls our shopfloor machine loading.
Dougie.
edit. These are all 19" monitors.

I have a 24inch samsung to connect thru my laptop and it is incred, and will do the job you want. You can 12 table small sized tables on it with ease.

Similar to Dougie's idea of multiple monitors, I'd say that this setup is pretty much spot on for a lot of people's needs:

That's a 30" in the middle for multi-tabling, the other two are 20" monitors in portrait - one side screen for pokertracker or the like, and the other one for blonde of course!

It's not mine, unfortunately. When i can justify it to the wife - then I might go for it.
