Do I understand correctly, people who had never met/didn't know him personally gave him money?
This is correct. It is how the forum works everyday with one exception. To raise funds of that amount you would normally have to be a proven and fairly senior member as well a great player. ThePersonInQuestion was neither and investors paid for it.
So I could come on this forum you mention and claim to be "Phil Helmuth" or some named player and people would invest in me? Or am I missing something? surely you check these people out!
obviously they will check the databases of results but what ther members of the forum forgot is that having a bracelet doesnt = good player/ non-busto trustworthy guy.
Just seen wilson on pokertube on "£50 says you will watch this" and he comes across as a loud brash tool imo. As someone who has been rolled/hacked i hope the backers get their money back. Stories like this give these sites a bad name.

If it seems to good to be true it normally is. It's a shame people invested in something that was risky, but risk is as it says - a risk. Poker has never been a sure thing and those thaty think it are are welcome to come and play at my table...
The US guys are a bit peeved, and I can understand why, but I'm still unsure as to what they hope to achieve by posting here. I'm certainly not going to contribute to a whip round. Is it getting an opportunity to be heard that makes people feel better perhaps, in the hope that the 'guilty party' doesn't get away with it scott free?
I can understand that if it's the case, but making our lives difficult by causing our forum lots of work when it's got nout to do with us is a bit rich imho.
Anyway - hope it's all been said now.
We are aware of the situation.

And for the benefit of cxf (see I got it right), his name is NOT "mug", it's mfi. OK?
Now, I'm worried about that yak. Tell us more, Sir. And did they smoke a kipper?

Thanks cfx, that sounds like a mess for sure. I hope both parties get a good and proper solution sorted out.
God damn it, why does everyone insist on calling me cfx?? Noobs do it at "the other" forum as well!!! Has the internet so degraded our literary standards that all we can do is speed read and dyslexia is becoming the norm?
?
edit: spelling and literary standards.
Nominated for Post of the Week.
I'll have to go & lay down for an hour if you turn out to be an American giving the Great British Public lessons in literal skills. I mean, George W Bush is American, so surely......
I'm starting to like you buddy.

VERY good try. But wrong, sorry. And if I get called "yak it" even the once, I shall sue you. I have image rights. I'm big over here, especially in West Ilkeston, you know, famous like.
Look, Red-Dog - who's a white man (obviously), got glued to a yak whilst smoking a kipper. You knew that, yes?

The point of posting here was to get a message to him. We were under the impression he was/is an active and respected member here. It has been the experience of the past that when things like this follows rollers to areas of their life/play away from PTP they will often make good.
But a whip round would be nice....

bit OTT here tracey imo. Brian has stated many a time his link with dave colclough and blonde poker an a quick google or wikipidia search will tell you that.
If id have been screwed out of $4k id want to try and get in touch with him to, and they may see blonde as their only channel for this. I can see that it is no problem of blonde poker or individual members but maybe they were just seeing if anybody had any contact details for brian as he has gone AWOL. I can't blame the guys for doing this.

Agreed completely - but it only takes one to ask the question "Have you seen Brian recently?" not loads of them joining up and posting over the forum in the wee hours. Ironside actually had to do some work as a Mod - I mean come on - there are limits to our Blondes resources - and actually having to use Ironside for Mod work........
