Every league that doesn't have a lot of money
and only two or three teams that dominate is essentially a weak league. In Holland we are lucky that we consistently churn out decent youngsters and that means that out National side is still OK but even we don't kid ourselves that our league is OK like the Scots seem to do.
English Premier League Winners From Inception:
1992–93 Manchester United
1993–94 Manchester United
1994–95 Blackburn Rovers
1995–96 Manchester United
1996–97 Manchester United
1997–98 Arsenal
1998–99 Manchester United
1999–2000 Manchester United
2000–01 Manchester United
2001–02 Arsenal
2002–03 Manchester United
2003–04 Arsenal
2004–05 Chelsea
2005–06 Chelsea
2006–07 Manchester United
I genuinely worry about the state of the Scottish educational system when people have this big a problem with reading and general interpretation of a text
Scottish footie is weak because it only has 2 BIG teams (England, Italy and spain have plenty) and the others have no money (England, Italy and Spain have plenty) and no supporters (Do I need to go on?)..You know this Bandit...and I would say almost everybody that disagrees with me knows this. Sometimes I pray for some of the pills you Scots are taking when it comes to footie ..I could do with some to feel better about the state of dutch football.

Another disaster for Scottish Football.
FFS QoS in Europe next year.
Scottish footie is a disaster..this just goes to show just how weak it really is if you take out the big two.
well done QoS.
That's absolute rubbish. Scottish football has been brilliant recently, some really entertaining games and good runs in Europe for Rangers, Celtic and Aberdeen.
We were awful in defence today but QoS played well and deserved to go through, good luck to them in the final.
Scottish footie has been brilliant this year compared to recent years..that doesn't mean it's not very weak.
Aberdeen are a very poor side as are Hibs, Hearts, Motherwell, Dundee Utd and the others. Celtic and Rangers are the only two half decent sides in Scottish football (and even they are not all that good).
Really that is the case..honestly. Nice to see that the Scottish national side did OK and that Rangers are on a good run in the Uefa Cup but that doesn't mean that it's any good.
Scottish footie doesn't amount to much in the same way that Dutch, Belgian, French and Portuguese footie doesn't amount to much. (And the last two nations have had a team in the CL final in the last few years).

Who is kidding themselves on? No one is suggesting it is on a par with the Premiership, La Liga or Serie A or even close and nor will it ever be. The reasons for that are pretty apparent.

I never said we don't have problems I was merley pointing out that very much like evry other league in Europe the top tier is dominated consistently by same teams.
Our league definitely isn't as bad as some folk try and make out but the whole of Scottish football needs reorganisation IMO.

Spot on. A lot of the media (Chick Young in particular) seem intent on trying to play down the quality of Scottish football. I agree it is nowhere near the Premiership but this season there has been some cracking games in the league and cups.
I'm firmly on the restructuring side aswell, while some seasons the top six split has been exciting we would be a lot better off with a bigger league and playing each team twice, once away and once at home.

Nobody has mentioned that in the past couple of years Scottish football's european representatives have beaten THE giants of these countries , including champions of said Elite leagues , Seria A , Premiership and Bundesliga , teams like AC Milan , Man Utd , Lyon , Werder Bremen and Stuttgart ( German champions ) have been beaten by Scottish teams in European competition , World cup finalists France have been beaten twice by Scottish national team in competition , now Celtic have reached last 16 twice in a row for first time in their history and Rangers are in Semi Final of European competition for first time in years all in all i'd say Scottish football is doing well for itself at this period in time.

Good point. But Boldie's point was that outside of the European representatives the standard is very poor.
In La Liga you have many teams outside the top 2 capable of beating the top 2. The lower table sides are very technically gifted. The strength in depth is miles ahead of other leagues.
The EPL has caught up to a point, mainly because of all the foreign money coming into clubs lower down the table like Villa, West Ham, Man City etc and also well managed clubs without this money like Everton.
Outside of the top 4 in England I still think the league is weaker than Spain's but it definately catching up.
You can also apply this reasoning to The Bundesliga, (Werder Bremen, Schalke, Leverkusen a few years back) Serie A (Udinese, Fiorentina, Inter - back in 2000 one of 6 teams could win the league) and Ligue 1 (Bordeaux, Marseille, Nancy).
I just dont think you can apply this reasoning to the SPL - with the exception of a very brief spell from Hearts a year or two back.

It would do if our teams weren't busy dominating the European cup this year.

do you think the teams in Spain are THAT good ? technically gifted maybe , strong squads maybe , but is the fact these teams are capable of beating the big 2 not indicative of poor Barcelona and Madrid teams ?? both major under achievers in my book as are Bayern of Bundesliga which for me takes a bit of beating to being the toughest league in Europe , some great teams and players in there .
as for Seria A i think it's a case of corruption and greed killing their game from within , always too defensive for my liking anyway.
anybody watch the top 20 champions league goals the other night there ? some great teams and individuals in there , Borrussia Dortmund stick in my memory .
they signed Paul Lambert from Motherwell and won the champions league pmsl , they had some great great players like Muller , Sammer and Chapuisat in their team. class

Fair point - the top 2 in Spain are weaker this year.
But even when you had the Galacticos (pre Beckham) and a great Barca team a year or two back, they never did unbeaten seasons or years where they only lost one game because on the whole the smaller teams are capable of competing.
In recent years (since 2000) Deportivo, Valencia, Villareal, Sevilla, Atletico and Sociadad have all competed for the league title. There have been some very strong Real and Barca teams in that period.
