Good choice? I think so as long as he gets a decent coach to work alongside him

I'm a bit surprised on how Ashton has been shoved out of it.  I know he hasn't done great, but I'm not sure he's had the players to do a great job.  A big downside must have been the very disapointing 6 nations after recovering in the WC.  Not sure all the backstabbing would have helped either.

GL to Martin though, a great leader on the pitch, I hope he can be off it too.

England have the players, a superb domestic Championship and now a real motivator (like Woodward before he went a bit eccentric) in charge.

Ashotn wasn't treated well but someone like Jake White, SA WC winning coach, would be ideal to get the most out of a good batch of young players

Is a world class coach going to join team England with no input on Team Selection and Tactics?

i think when push comes to shove, this "edict" will have to be softened

as it stands, no. You might as well get Martin to be head coach too

Shame he couldn't get Edwards to join the England set-up.

but the WC was a shambles until the Australia gaem before which the players had a meet minus Ashton to sort out their tactics

In the 6N we threw a game away against Wales, scraped past Italy, were clueless in Scotland and beat a woeful France (fine achievement) and a demoralised and clueless Ireland

Selection policy was inconsistent (Balshaw at Full back all 6N?) and tactically we were uninspring

He was treated badly, but moving forward without him is the correct decision

We should have got Jake White.

Done well getting rid of Ashton.
We should ditch Rob Andrew.

Johno's got all my support as he is a legend and i believe we will improve but White was the man for the job.
