Man utd 99 was 1st that sprung to my mind but there are many remarkable moments in every sport like wilkos last minute drop goal or arsenal not losing in a full season to most recently o'sullivan's nigh on perfect 147 yesterday.

This has to be up there on sporting achievements for me

There are still some Japs in the jungle who think Ben Johnson won that medal for real.

Michael Johnson's 200m world record in Atlanta

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTjk770KoR0

Unbelievable - he destroys the record, and he eases down a little at the end.  Machine!

The margin by which he beats the old record is stuff written in fiction. The fact that Fredericks, who was yards behind, ran the 2nd fastest time ever at that stage also spoke volumes.

By far the greatest Olympic moment I've ever seen or am ever likely to see.

Can't add to that. In total agreement.

One that I remember totally enjoying was the Mike Powell vs Carl Lewis long jump duel in the 1991 World Championships ( in Tokyo I think)

Also amazing. No one thought Powell had a prayer. I Carl Lewis running accross the 100m track, immediately prior to the start of a race, in ecstasy as he thought he'd won it.

In 1998 for the first time pro hockey players could compete in the Olympics.

We lost to the Czechs in a shootout in the semis. Hasek was unreal and they ended up beating the Russians for the gold. I felt totally deflated as did the country.

In 2002, the Olympics were in Salt Lake City.

On the Thursday night before the games ended, our women beat the USA in the womens hockey final 3-2 avenging the Nagano 1998 defeat. It was sweet. But on the last day of the games, Sunday February 15th, we played the USA in the mens final.

It remains the greatest day of my life.

A rare sporting moment giving evidence that they: 1) Sing. 2) Have Humour.

There is a naughty word in there so don't watch if you are prone to moaning unnecessarily.
