Come on, it was adequetly funny, although maybe the OP was a little ambitious with claims of ingenious comedy
It most certainly was not adequately funny!..Eddy Murphy in Doctor Doolitte wasn't adequately funny and this was less funny than that.
O.k, watch it again and this time not for the comedic content of the stage performers nor for the ineptetude of the audience participants but for the fact that they dont realise that they are soley the ones being taken the piss out of, especially by the host at the end, it's almost offensive if they realised, but as any good host knows being on t.v makes you superior in everyway and his condescension at the end is great viewing so sit back and join in with the rest of the crowd at laughing at these two incredibly shy and nervous women and laugh at not only how stupid they are but also for the fact that they dont realise it, come on, join in, it's fun, and it exalts our otherwise empty lives to a haughty state of pretension and fulfilment.
(sorry about all that, it was the dr doolitle comment that got me, strong words man, strong words, that film was so bad)!!
