Tipping the dealers?
«
on:
May 05, 2008, 03:04:15 AM »
How does it work?
Does the final table do the tipping?
If the HU tourney is going to be dealer dealt is it just the winning team who tips?
What about stts & cash?

IMO if you feel you've had good enough service to warrant a tip - then you tip.
If you go out early but think the dealers were doing excellent you can leave a tip, if you win but think the dealers were only doing their job as they should do, you don't.

Its up to each individual if they tip if they cash in a tournament. Is the Heads Up "juice" free? If it is I hope the winning team will sort it out.
As to cash, all tips are shared among dealers (possibly other staff too DtD can confirm?). I tipped on the rare occasions I won a pot £1 or £2 if pot was over £120.

Thanks for asking that Suzanne - I didn't think of it & I'd have been wondering when I got to DtD.

tipping shoul not be expected (unlike aspers newcastle recently who felt the need for the final table to broker a deal for valets prior to the commencement of the final table)
i personally tip if i feel service is good and not if i feel its not good. i would always tip the dealer of the final table if i have a good finish f i new it went solely to him/her.

Having personally experienced card room managers telling me and others players who have cashed that we should tip and witnessed others being made to feel guilty if they do not tip I have adopted a no tipping policy. When I do cash I now adopt a policy of donating to a charity of my choice as and when I see fit. I have never previously felt the need to express but I mention it now because this thread does bring up the point that many people are unsure of what to do if they do cash. Some people feel they are expected to tip, the question is, is this due to their own belief in tipping or due to peer pressure they feel have to. I really don't think it's a question that should be asked but as it has my answer is, it's your money and do with it what you want. If you want to tip, then tip. If you want to spend it all on a most expensive bottle of champagne then indulge yourself.
Also reading comments re: players who apparently haven't tipped enough has influenced my preference to not leave a tip. Whatever you do someone will not be happy. For example when Paul McCartney gave a one million donation to charity there were numerous people who phoned up a radio station to comment, well he can afford it and suggested he was actually being tight for just giving a million.
So if I do happen to cash at BB6 just like I did at BB4 I shall not be leaving a tip. This will be no refection on the service I may receive which apparently, at

IMO no one should feel pressure to tip, and no one should feel like they 'have to'...

As a dealer at DTD, please rest assured that nobody is under any obligation to tip, and no one is "expected to tip". Everyone will still recieve the same service, hopefully it will be excellent btw. We will all work our knackers off making sure you have an enjoyable experience
If you do however give tips, they will be recieved graciously. And for me personally (can't speak for others) a tip is a showing that the service you recieve exceeds expectation, and that you appreciated the extra mile.
Redsimon is correct
Valets keep their own tips
Dealers by law must pool all tips and divide equally between themselves, and @ DTD the dealers give 10% of their tips to back of house staff. i.e chefs etc

does this include reception, cashiers, security and cleaners? or are they seperate via the tips thingy on the reception desk?
I don't think we ever got an answer to this when discussing it before

I like that 10% idea - adds to the team atmosphere. I hope someone made the scandies aware of tipping? Expect you all to go to the Bahamas for your hols this year if so!
