Bruce Willis' career went quickly downhill after he fought Tyson.

sigh, I didn't get that far - I just read the bits about the bikes having no gears etc and thought that was the bit that Tracey didn't believe!

Claw here is my Crown of whooshness - I am done with it - wear it well if not wisely  ;kneelsuckers;

lol - I think I've got a bit of catching up to do first Smiley  I'm not feeling particularly quick just now though, so it might not be long Grin

Why does speedway only go one way? Why does it go anti clockwise? Couldn't they go clockwise too or are the bikes made to turn into the corners only one way? I realise that is unlikely but I can't think of another reason why that would be like that?

Speedway bikes don't have gears so can't go uphill.

Speedway tracks are designed so that anti-clockwise is downhill. The extra speed the bikes go at also makes it more exciting for people to watch.

Funny - and the real answer?Huh?  Roll Eyes

lmao - for once that was a serious post by Andrew, Trace.  I think you're too worried about being whooshed now!!!

Passive whooshing FTW.

Here are the current 9 participants in the British Elite Speedway league

    * Belle Vue Aces
    * Coventry Bees
    * Eastbourne Eagles
    * Ipswich Witches
    * Lakeside Hammers
    * Peterborough Panthers
    * Poole Pirates
    * Swindon Robins
    * Wolverhampton Wolves

what an eclectic mix of locations! I am intrigued as to how this came about, with such provincial teams not based in major conurbations

As yet my enquiries as to why this is so are fruitless

On I press.

quite possibly unique to the UK.

in Poland speedway is a huge sport, you see the fans in their thousands walking through town wearing their colours on the day of a big meet. nearly all of the teams are from major cities

While travelling home on Sunday evening, I was a passenger in a car driving along the M25.

The driver had an interesting thought.

What would the difference in distance be between driving clockwise and anticlockwise around the M25, assuming you stayed in the left hand lane.

I thought it might keep you busy for a while...

I've only just seen this thread, Bowling for Soup are brilliant not many have even heard of them.

I reckon all those speedway places are also dog tracks - poor old rabbit doesn't stand much chance though.

Also there's not much else to do round most of the places so in years gone by they were just practising their get-aways.

I saw Bowling for Soup in Sheffield, as I really wanted to see MC Lars who was supporting them (they also played the music on his track "Signing Emo" and appear in "Download this Song". Was most enjoyable.

Eastbourne aren't based their either, they are actually in a small village called Arlington.

I assume it's the distance between the two lanes (20m?) mulitplied by 2 pi.

(Assuming the gap between lanes is constant, you treat the M25 as a perfect circle and you ignore that whole half bridge/half tunnel arrangement at Dartford Smiley )
