Holiday Time
Tuesday February 14th 2012So we left Guernsey on Sat 21st January to begin a one month holiday at home with the family, they were unaware that we were coming as Roxanne wanted it to be a surprise.
We stayed overnight at a hotel in Heathrow and flew on Sunday with Saudi Arabian Airlines, this meant a 7hr stopover at Riyadh but the price of the ticket dictates which airline I fly with. Riyadh is not an airport you want to spend anymore time than is necessary, there are 3 cafes and 1 shop, that said if the price were right another time I would have no problem flying with Saudi again, I'm not sure Roxanne would agree!!!
We arrived home the early hours of Tuesday morning (Philippine time) and as expected the family were most surprised to see us, after the initial shock they were more interested as to what was in our bags for them.
The main reason for coming home at this time was that on Feb 4th it was both Cean's 11th birthday and Roxanne's dad's birthday, compared to previous years this was low key, family and a few friends but still a nice day.
Most of our days's are spent pretty much the same, get up around 7am, breakfast, most days I will then go to the Gym for an hour or so, this costs 40pesos (55pence) and to be fair it is a very good Gym with all the equipment you need.Lunch is usually around 11.30am, Roxanne's Mum has 500 pesos ( £7 ) per day for food this will feed a minimum of TEN of us 3 meals each day.
Each meal will generally consist of Rice, a fish soup (whole fish cut up cooked with veg and leaves and seasoning) and some other cooked veg and meat/fish, to be honest we always seem to have plenty of food and it's all FRESH bought at the market early morning or from vendor's who call at the house.A sack of Mussels approx 5kilos cost 20pesos (14pence) and 2 dozen Oysters cost the same.
The afternoon will either be spent playing cards for pisos (pennies) or taking an afternoon nap as it gets very hot.Food will appear again around 4pm in the form of some type of snack, and dinner can be anytime between 6pm - 10pm.
We have another week left, our journey back to Guernsey will begin next Tuesday..............
