Arrive lunchtime, flight was long but good, am met at the airport by Roxanne and an entourage of her family who have travelled with her (hired a car), we spend the afternoon having lunch and doing some shopping at the mall, Roxanne and I book into a hotel in the Makati district and the family go to spend the night with adopted other family members in Alabang.

Monday 01st June 2009:

Up early and take a taxi to the British Embassy, this is to get the correct paperwork needed in order to be able to get married, hence not saying anything beforehand as was not completely sure things would run to plan, but to be fair once at the embassy everything was done and dusted within 45 minutes. Returned to Makati and the shopping mall and found and purchased Roxanne a wedding ring, 17,000 Php (pesos)  £227.00!!! It’s what she wanted.

Met up with the rest of the family and started our journey back to San Fernando which is 270 Km from Manila (168 miles) but whichever way you look at it it’s a 7 hour journey ffs, we break the journey by stopping for dinner at a very nice restaurant where the food is very good and the wood carvings are awesome,and arrive back home about 10pm.

Taxi, I've only just found this thread. I fondly remember those battles we had across the felt at Ladbrokes all those years ago.

Roxanne’s Birthday.

Tuesday 02nd June 2009

Today was Roxanne’s 27th birthday and this is the MAIN reason I returned at this time not knowing whether we would be able to marry or not as birthdays are very special to the Philippine people and are celebrated without exception so it is important to me I am here to be with such a special girl. 1st thing we go to the City hall and file our application for a marriage license this will have a 10 day waiting period so we set the date for the 13th, all a bit rushed but because of the paperwork involved we had no choice. Go into town to buy the food for the birthday party, cake is most important (£4.60 each) followed by pancit-boiled noodles with meat and vegetables and fruit salad (tinned fruit cocktail mixed with cream and condensed milk, this is a MUST for a proper birthday in the Philippines!!).

The evening is spent with family, friends and the WHOLE bloody village, plenty of beer wine food and Videoke all in all a really good night and Roxanne is so happy.

They have very little in their lives but they are the happiest most contented people I know, and they know how to party without the fighting, it really is just all fun!!
