Enchantment? Enchantment!

Here are the chip counts of the remaining twenty players from Day 1A:

Peter Linton   93300
Mark Dalimre   77025
Sam Trickett   58375
Joey Lovelady   51125
Hamid Rowshanaei   42825
Ganesh Rao   37400
Michael Ellis   33475
Barry Smith   28325
Mickey Wernick   27050
Lynne Beaumont   27000
Richard Stanley   26800
Keith Hawkins   25950
David Smith   24700
Kerry Taylor   20850
Alan Vinnicombe   17800
Gareth Teatum   14900
Ian Farrell   13100
Matthew Buckland   12850
Gary Wilson   10350
Jason De Freitas   8825

So Pete is the big chip leader, the problem looked from where I was standing that people were too willing to try and play back at him (and also Sam Trickett and Joey Lovelady) from the blinds by just flat-calling and then playing OOP which is the worst thing you can do. More aggressive positional play and trapping with big hands is perhaps what's needed.

Anyway, we should be in line for a bigger turnout today. Play starts at 2pm. Let us know who you're supporting!

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Pre-tournament buffet included sushi, sandwiches, danish pastry, sausage rolls and spicy chicken wings.

The pressroom is the quietest it's ever been...

Announcements are being made, I am full of orange juice and coffee, and these things combined lead me to believe that we are literally moments away from starting. Current number of runners for today is a much less feeble 118, plus they're taking alternates, I think. Because of the small field yesterday though, we're still just playing through 35 minutes of level 8. Hurrah! Good luck, all!

We've lost two already.

First, A Caygill got it all-in with on a board against Priyan De Mel's , the ultimate blank the Two Clubs on the river.

Then on the table next to it, G Purewell (although maybe it's actually Garinder Purewal, I'm not sure) raised preflop with Aces, got 3 callers and then bet 400 on the 9-5-4 flop, the first player raised to 1,100 and Cheryl Routledge flat-called, any him with the Aces made it 4,500, the flop raiser passed and Chery set him in with a set of Fives which held up. Thanks to Sunny Chattha for that one.

Last month's winner in Manchester, Marc Goodwin.

Indeed it is veritable carnage out there - numbers are up to 123 already, with 120 left. Yikes.

I managed of course not to see any of those exits, but I saw a lot of people not in the slightest bit afraid to throw their chips around at this early stage.

For example, on Table Taylor, I saw the eponymous Rob bet 500 on a board, only for Paul Donaghey to make it 1500. Marc Goodwin comes along for the ride too, and Rob Taylor calls. The river is the and I believe it is checked down.

Paul Donaghey -
Rob Taylor - for a nice pot, and probably not happy that everyone checked it after him on the river
Marc Goodwin - mucks

Also not wasting time in getting involved is James Akenhead, betting out 550 on a three clubs flop, flat-called by one Steve Craig.

They bothe check the turn, and then James tries another 550 on the river. Steve makes it 1300, and James dwells long and hard before making the call. Sadly for him though it's the wrong call - Mr Craig turns over and James just mucks.

Mr Leo Kam, incidentally my Hoodie Of The Day in the same awesome number he wore to the Irish Open, is not taking any crap from anyone. He bets out on a two spades flop, only for one M Mccaritiy to raise him a hefty 3k. To which Leo calmly announces all in before going back to his cup of tea. Mr Mccaritiy now dwells up long enough for me to have a conversation with Rumit at the other end of the table. It goes like this:

"Hello Dana."
"Hello Rumit." (Noticing miniature Rubik's Cube) "Is that a new cube?"
"What, this? No, I've had it for ages."
"But I thought you lost it."
"Oh. Yes. I did. This is a new cube."
"So it is an new cube."
Maz Nawab - "Give it here a second."
Rumit - "No."
Me - "You don't mess with another man's cube, man."

Mr Mccaritiy passes and Leo Kam takes the chunky pot.

Maz - "Grrrr, give me your cube!"

I wander over to Praz Bansi's table just as he's losing a big pot to Tony Bedford. The board has two Kings on it, and Mr Bedford is holding A-K. Maz is holding nothing to write home about. He gives me a brave thumbs up anyway. "I was just trying to bluff. It didn't work," he says, unnecessarily. "I never learn..."
