Eurovision Song Contest
«

First of two semi-finals kicks off in about 10 minutes and I'm at bursting point with excitement.
For what it's worth I've had a good bet on Serbia at around 6-1 and have laid Armenia to finish out of the first four at just over evens. Serbia are straight through to the final without qualifying thanks to last year's win.
The results of the semis are supposed to be kept top secret but they usually have a way of leaking out, often on Greek TV for whatever reason. If I hear owt, I'll stick it up here (Finland and Serbia have both won the semi in recent times before going on to win the final).

Sigh...Ireland's best attempt is resting on the feathers of a feckin turkey.

Good luck if you're investing in the turkey, it won't finish anywhere near imo. If some bookmakers offers Turkey (the country) to beat Turkey (the turkey) I'm all in

We've got a non caucasian bin man
half the countries hate us for the Iraq war still, some hate us from WW2, some from the Cold war, some for timmy mallett and some for Joe Pasquale
the balkans will hate the fact that he's non caucasian
we've got no hope, again..yet we get seeded in

Rich,
Are you saying that historically the voting is not str8 and that outside influences dictate where some countries allocate their points?

England are only seeded cos they are one of the biggest funders of the whole thing along with France, Germany and Spain

Andorra are in it this year. They rely for their income on Spain. Spain 12 points
Macedonia will vote for Bosnia, and Vice versa
Finland/Norway.
etc etc etc
who'll vote for us? you could put Eric Clapton up there on bass, with Jagger as a front man, McCartney on lead guitar and Mick Fleetwood on drums singing and they'd still stick two fingers up at the Brits

From BBC website
Semi-finalists have been divided into two groups based on their usual voting preferences in a bid to lessen the impact of "neighbourly" voting.
Traditional voting allies Greece and Cyprus have been split up, the former Yugoslav, Baltic and Scandinavian countries have been separated, while the UK will not be able to vote for Ireland.

Andy A can sing but he hasn't been given a song, it's just noise and stuff, completely forgetable. Of course his manager is/was Addy Bay, the well-known Gutshot noisy get.

Pity they split them all up, especially when they acknowledge it's happening. May as well put us out of our misery in the semis by letting the vote fixing happen early days. Saves the expected disappointment in the main event when all are back to the usual rubbish scoring.

ahhhh Laxie, a very early punting memory was betting on Jonnhy Logan at 6/1. Im slightly ashamed to admit that I used to tape the heats and also all the Stars in their eyes shows so I could watch them all again just before the final, what a sad sad man eh?
