sadly

Taken from NASL homepage

"Team Managers must confirm with the match officials the exact timing of the "10 minute goal minder exclusion" no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled match start time. These timings once submitted can not be amended under any circumstances"

"The match officials signify the start of the "10 minute goal minder exclusion" with a triple blast on the whistle, upon which notice the Goal tender must leave the field and stay in the holding pen for the entire 10 minute period"

must find and link to the LA Times Podcast with Beckham where they talk about it. The Commissioner of the NASL talks through what problems he had convincing Sepp Blatter to allow the trial too.

Tighty, do you remember David the Welsh guy who works as a translator for the scandies at FIFA that  I introduced you to at Luton last year?

I asked him about this when it first happened and it turns out he was at the meeting you mention as the Norwegians were one of the delegations invited to the meeting (12 countries minimum have to be at any discussion of this type).

Apparently all the European teams were against the trial while all the non Europeans (of who there were more that day) supported it. Blatter could’ve effectively vetoed the motion and forced a meeting of all members of FIFA but instead chose to go with that day’s vote. David reckons that was to avoid pissing off the South Africans who’d also been invited that day and who Blatter was already having major rows with over 2010.

Well IMO it's wrong, in fact it's very very wrong, it's like some dirty tainted perverted low brow kind of football for people with the attention span of a goldfish and it should be banned. FIFA should kick them out for suggesting it let alone have a vote on it (as if it was needed we have even more proof Sepp Blatter is an arse). The most popular sport in the world for 100 years or so and the American's want to change it. They should play by the FIFA rules or not play at all.

They should stick to basketball, rounders (I think they call it baseball), or that padded up variation of rugby that welcomes performance enhancing drug cheats.

I'm still not entirely convinced that this isn't a wind up as I have been on the FIFA, MLS, and the now defunct NASL sites in an attempt to see this for myself and have drawn a blank. If you have any working links please post them.
