surely this is a daft rule,as Pannucci was not attempting to gain advantage by being off the field?

But if it was offside he would have gained an advantage whether looking for it or not. To play him offside he had to get up and run past Ruud. He went off the pitch so surely RVN can't be punished for that? He was onside and somebody left the pitch.

i thought i knew all the offside rules, i never knew about this one, the Italian looked hurt after he was knocked off the field
by his own goalkeeper, i am sure players have just stepped off the field and laid down with bad cramp in the past, i can see a lot of controversial goals being scored in the future

Imagine Van Nistelrooy was 1 yard from the goal, ahead of Buffon he would have been offside!


IMO Buffon should have been quicker minded, ran out and played Van Man offside...

The rule has always been you need to get the referee's permission to enter or leave the field of play. This is fairly straightforward. And will prevent more controversial goals than it will create.

agreed..yesterday was the first proper game of the tourney...can't wait for Russia v Spain today as well..that hsould be a good one
