Is anyone else baffled by his front running for two top premeirship jobs?!

Okay he has done a good job at Blackburn, playing a better quality of football than he is often given credit for, but surely Chelsea in particular would be out of his league. Even Man city under this crazy owner might be too big a step.

The main problem I think he'll have at a 'bigger' club, with higher profile players, is that he still has a players ego himself. He's had a decent amount of fall outs with players where they have similar ego's - and he'll come up against a lot of them at Chelsea, and an increasing number at Man City.

Should be interesting to see how it pans out. Obviously success at one of those would line him up well for what would probably be his dream job.

great judge of talent though

Roque Santa Cruz for £3.5m?? superb buy

Bentley too, Matt Derbyshire etc

I would think he'd do well at City, was surprised to see that Chelsea had/have him in the frame though

I'm suprised you class man city as a top prem job i would say spurs everton and dare i say it newcastle are all bigger jobs than city job especially not so inticing when the chairmans a nutcase and players are all pissed off.

I'd put it in the top half and in terms of finances its probably going to be above all but Man U and Chelsea.

Citeh are in Europe, and until Shinawatra got all dictatorial (he's had practice at that) they seemed to be building a strong squad to try and build something there.  The Citeh job is definitely a top premiership job.

I'm sure a manager would be happy to have the funds that are available, but would also be very concerned with the interference from above.

Cruz was a good buy, but I don't think he took any talent spotting. He was good in Germany and they somehow got a cracking deal. I'd agree that it is one of his strengths though - but it is also one of the least required attributes at the two jobs he's being touted for. They will be after the big name players that everyone knows all about imo.

yes agreed.

it may be that he's best having to look for a bargain (as say O'Neill was historically) rather than being given gazillions to spend on Grade A stars

as you say, will be interesting to see how he gets on

Where does it say that Hughes is in line for the Chelsea job? IMO just lazy journalism, adding 2+2 together because he is a good manager and a former player.

the problem he'll have if he goes to city is that they want instant success there and as a manager i think of him as more of a grinder, look how long it's taken him(and david moyes) to build solid teams with good home records and i just dont think he'll be given that time at city, if you're looking to build for the next decade hughes perfect pick but if you want flair and instant success they're gonna come unstuck with Hughes, he seems like a manager that looks long term at things where the lunatic owner seems to have he's own ideas which contradict that of Hugues's managerial philosophy

Sparkey's taking the City Job to save him having to move house again in two years time when the United job becomes vacant.

yeh, I'm gutted that Hughes is leaving but I'd be fairly happy with Big Sam as a replacement.
