Right, I know absolutley nothing about TVs and I could do with a bit of advice.

I have been looking this weekend and have narrowed it down to these 2. Can anyone tell me which is the best. Thanks.

Samsung FTW. But there is little to differentiate them IMO.

prob wanting at least 40" and obv HD so can fire the PS3 on. Anyone bought anything recently?

Is this sort of thing ok? - http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1248259859.1228054780@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdkadefkmfkjedcflgceggdhhmdfnm.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=505561&category_oid=-28723

The rule used to be plasma for over 40",lcd for under but lcd is catching up fast.Just look for 1080p as this is full hd,PS3 games are only 726p at the minute but its only a matter of time till full hd.I have a panasonic 42"plasma and the ps3 is great.Check out avforumsuk, very geeky however loads of info if you can be bothered to trawl through, including any good deals at the minute.

You have to be careful with TVs advertised as "1080i compatible", as they are often 780 line ("HD Ready") TVs that will downscale a 1080 signal. For the full future-proof monty you need to look out for "Full HD" with 1080p compatibility, and ideally look for one that will accept 1080p24, ie 24 frames per second, which is film speed, and gives the best possible picture for HD films.

Personally, I'd go for plasma, as they generally give much more accurate colour reproduction. But you do have to be slightly careful about screen burn on them if you have a static image or logo displayed for long periods. That's about the only downside with them.

I'd +1 on the avforums.com. Lots of info over there.

Never heard of Sense and tbh I'd avoid it, it's just too cheap for a decent tele.

The Toshiba is a decent box, when I got mine it was a toss up between that (37") and a Panasonic LCD and Plasma, but I went for the Panasonic plasma even though it wasn't 1080p.  The colours were a lot better on the plasma and even though it wasn't full HD, I couldn't tell when the two screens were sat next to each other showing the same thing.

thanks Silo - I've been searching for a reasonable 40/42inch full HD for >600 - it's tough.
