This is a question to all the other non-pros on Blonde. What is your main reason for playing Poker, is it because it's profitable, or because you enjoy it?

I was thinking about my game today as I find MTT's more enjoyable but STT's more profitable. The money I make playing STT's tends to either go to my Beer fund or to my live play fund.

I much prefer live MTT's as they are the most fun for me, but normally well outside my Bankroll, so my on-line profits pay for that.

So what's the reason for the other non-pros out there? Is it; Enjoyment, Profit, Beer Fund or something else?

I do it for fun and would put winning a small stakes tournament ahead of a bigger cash where I only came 4th.

I don't play STT's because the optimal strategy is too dull. My main reason for building a bankroll is to play bigger (more fun) games rather than draw money out.

I love it, I like making money and like Grier, winning tourneys is something else (especially as I don't win that many)  It's more than the money, although it does help to make some now and again.

I'm not sure why I build my bankroll.  I managed to get a fair bit (for me) but never moved up in game stakes, I guess I should, but I've just taken most of it out to go towards our South Africa trip in October (semi brag) so I'd have to move back to my current level anyway.  I'm going to build again to play bigger tourneys though.  I'd like to play some of the large live events (EPT/GUKPT) and hopefully will build towards that.

Both.

Online for profit, live for fun - although I still enjoy playing online.

I am not a pro and i don't want to sound like a twat here but i honestly believe i am a good player who is better than about 70% of poker players online my results just don't back that up i probably get my chips all in with the best hand above 80% of the time probably closer to 90 tbh.I was speaking to my cousin the other day he's a good player who has won $50,000 by winning 6 sngs in a row he's in double figures on how many live tourneys he's won and i would defo class him as a good poker player, me on the other my biggest cash is £750 in an apat event when my AQ was no good for A10 (tighty do u remember me from this event it was the newcaslte aspers event i remember looking at your note pad as i'd turned away from the table and heard u go aghhhhh and knew that was my tourney over) i've never won a live tourney and never won an mtt of more than 30 players yet he says i'm a better player than he is (he's not the type to humour people he used to always grief me for bein shit which i was) i don't believe anyone can run that bad so i'm totally assesing where i'm going wrong at the moment and doubting everything that i do.

Just realised this post is far to long well done to anyone who could be arsed to read it all  Wink

+1

Stick at it mondatoo, you may want to look at situations where you can win chips without having the best hand (just don't go too far that way like me and become a total donkey). The great thing about poker is that you can always improve your game. I had never won a live tournament before I entered the Virgin festival this comming weekend and with a bit of luck I managed to take it down (whats wrong with positive thinking?).

Ditto

I don't care what level I'm playing at and I don't care about making any kind of wage from it, so I generally play the small stakes games that I know I can beat when I haven't got much cash in my bankroll - and when it builds up I take shots at the bigger games.

My priority in poker is to challenge myself to do better, to stay in the game - and to do it for free.

Online purely for profit, live for profit and fun. Unfortunately I've not made anything online this year because I'm crap.

BTW. Anyone who says they play online poker purely for fun and plays anything other than freeroll / microstakes is a big fibber.

I have been playing since 98 online and its always been fun. Never had a bankroll, never stressed about winning or losing. Often look at it as fun and cheap entertainment. Overall I am in front, but it wouldn't bother me if I lost small amounts.

Its funny how RED-DOG once wrote most people don't play MTT's to actually win them, i know it sounds strange but I would class myself as one of those people. It passes the time and I enjoy the ride. Nothing better then when I went deep after being staked on these forums last month Smiley
