Robinson - 37 games Chimbonda - 49 Gardener - 6 Kaboul - 29 Lee - 30 Malbranque - 55 Boateng - 21 Ghaly - 0 Tainio - ? Keane - 54 Bertatov - 52
Your stats above prove my point for me. Only Keane, Berbatov and Malbranque are/were 1st team members' i.e would play every game if fit. The others' are/were just squad players'. Chimbonda only played 49 games due to Hutton coming in January and also Bale and BAE not being fit. Squad players will be what makes the difference to you lot being 5th or 9th. There a a decent number of minutes on the pitch to be covered from those that have left. I think you have to build in that you'll have injury's - particulary at CB and you must be v thin there with two more gone (though I guess Gardner can be brought back from loan). It should be an interesting couple of weeks all round in the transfer market - unless clubs have blown the Tv money last year.

I am very disappointed that Kaboul is beng sold as he has huge potential. Donkey Dawson is still here which isn't good for us imo.

I thought he was only going to Hull on loan. Hopefully Dawson will be staying there. Seen his name in the same sentence as NUFc too many times this summer.

Liverpool are expected to complete the £18m signing of striker Robbie Keane from Tottenham within 24 hours
THIS A JOKE. HES 28!!!!!!!! HOW CAN THEY PAY 18 MILLION FOR SOMEONE SO OLD IN FOOTBALLING TERMS & someone who isnt even that good at finishing.
This could be the biggest rip-off of the summer.
ANything over 13 million is an incredibly nice hand by Spurs.

£12m is ludicrous. Great season in 2006-07, not a lot since (injuries, form) Excellent business by Everton when it happens

I think Keane is a bargain for £18mil. I love him as a footballer he's soooooo good and brings people into the game. Intelligent player.
Everton sign Johnson for 8.6 as a gamble. Pays off as he has a good season. Then he loses form and plays less and gets sold on for nearly £12million???
I'd rather have Anichebe (sp)!

LoL @ 18m being a bargain for someone who is close to retirement.
I think there are less than 10 players over 28 years old in the world that could be considered a bargain at 18m & Robbie Keane isnt one of them.
How much could Liverpool get for him in 3 years time as a 31 year old. No more than 5m ldo.

I get the point about age but it's hardly retirement age! With age comes experience! Inter Milan paid £13mil and Leeds paid £12 mil for him and think how much a better player he is now compared to then.
I don't think they're trying to get the money back in transfer fees in 3 years time i reckon the aim is to get it back by winning another champions league, winning a domestic cup each season or becoming a top 2 side rather than just a top 4 team. With the new TV deal each position in the premiership is worth a lot more.
I suppose it depends what you compare it to. 18mil for Keane or £12 for Johnson = Bargain

Yeah, thats a fair point. I guess i have a biased view aswell as i saw him every week at Leeds when he was with us, and he wasnt that good. He would miss most chances and i dont think i ever saw him score a 1 on 1 oppourtunity. But hes obv improved since then to net 23 goals last year for Spurs. Still too old tho!

I don't think liverpool are signing Robbie Keane with the intention of selling him in 3 years for a profit , he has been bought to form a lethal partnership with torres and i think it will be, with Keane playing just behind torres i think they will have Keane's creativity and craft and torres scorching pace and finishing .Rather formidable dint you think ?

£18M is a lot, and is being financed by the sales of Crouch, Riise and Carson.
He's definitely proven in the Premiership, and is a clever player who works - which is what Rafa likes. He has a tasty missus too.
My only concern is how Rafa is going to use Torres, Keane and Gerrard in the side. I'd assume that all three are going to be starting when fit - so it'll be interesting how Rafa sets the side up. I hope he doesn't play Keane out wide...
