Laptop question - HELP

I have just bought a laptop and want to be able to play poker on it when i go abroad.

Other than dialling up at the hotel which is very expensive usually.... what other options do i have?

Any help would be much appreciated.

if it's wi-fi enabled, your hotel probably has wi-fi access which is rarely anymore than a tenner a day! other than that you shoudl be able to get a cable connection in your hotel

in fact, just confirmed, the H10 Marina, has free broadband via cable connection(cable should be supplied in room)

Hi Ben,

As you know I am currently in Bangkok and in a decent hotel I've got ultra high speed dial up on my laptop for 3 per day. I would imagine you would be able to find similar in Mexico. Also I'd imagine some internet cafes will let you take your laptop in and play online from there. Not to sure about wifi, in Bangkok there is wifi in the Airport but not many other places as far as I know.

Laptop & WiFi or hotel connection?

I have a thingymajig called a Vodafone Data Connect Card for my laptop. No wires needed, works anywhere. Has a SIM card in it, so if your moby would work wherever you are going, then this Date Connect Card would.

I use it on the train - to send & receive e-mails - I am using it now in Vienna, & I've used it in Jesolo (Italy), Blackpool, London, everyehere I have been it has worked just fine. No wires either, no WiFi or Hotspots needed. It's magic!

Find a Driv Thru McDonalnds, most of them have one of them have BT OpenZone WiFi access point, like those found in motorway service stations.

You can punch in a postcode here, http://www.btopenzone.com/ and it will give you your nearest access point.

But for the OP, most decent hotels abroad will offer broadband connections in your room or some kind of WiFi access point. Make a point of asking before you book - else you are going to be stuck with dial up or searching for an internet cafe.

No it's not magic, it uses the GSM/2.5G telephony network - and you are buggered if there doesn't happen to be a signal. Granted, theres more chance of you having a signal than finding a WiFi access point - but it's not magic   It's also expensive, unless you are a frequent user of roaming mobile features anyway (which I guess you probably are with the time you spend overseas).

Seems to be the site to search with, it lists all the WiFi AP operators, BT OpenZone, Ready To Surf etc.

Seems Virgin Megastores all have APs in them. I can't imagine wanting to get out my laptop and take a seat in a store to read my emails :|
