I don't really go for that evolution bollox either. It tends to work on the principal that we evolve in order that we may survive, if we are evolved from Monkeys, why the f@@k are there still monkeys?

Geo.

You misunderstand evolution.

Evolution has no predetermined purpose, there isn't a 'goal'.  Evolution occurs thousands of generations, and random mutations make individuals within populations better suited to the environment they're in.  The ones better suited will flourish, and their offspring will thrive.  Those less suited will see their numbers drop over time, maybe even die out completely.

Bacteria are the most successful life-form on the planet, they don't need to 'evolve' into more complex organisms to survive to thrive.

I'd suggest you read up on evolution, here's a starter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

I'd recommend 'The Selfish Gene' by Richard Dawkins as well for a more in-depth introduction to how evolution actually works.

As for us coming from monkeys, we don't.  We're actually apes, and so share a common ancestor with monkeys - but we didn't evolve from monkeys.

Thanks for the lesson "O great one"

I don't think I have mis-understood at all as highlighted here, if you where so fucking clever you will see that my point was that I didn't believe all that nonesense.

Any reason why you seem to have taken on the mantle of headmaster on this forum, and why we should all agree with your (IMO rather long winded) opinions on evolution, religion and the likes??

Easy fella.  If you disagree with me, that's perfectly fine - I don't understand the personal attack though.  I didn't mention religion in that post - merely explaining a scientific fact.

Sorry for having a different opinion to you.  I'd be interested to hear your alternative theories for how life has 'evolved' on earth.

It's pretty simple mate, I don't have any theories on it but do get annoyed at others trying to convince me that their theory is the correct one. My reference to religion relates to other threads.

References to books etc are merely pointing me to one persons "theory" for any theory there are always others who disagree.

Geo, are you on your monthly's m8?

Had a late night and still had to be in work early today. Played the OP charity game and the Circus £30dc straight after.Finalled both but finished 4th & 5th respectively

A good days poker for what some may consider not a great return (£300 after buy ins) for about 15 hours straight playing.

FWIW Dan,

I still think you're a top bloke.

I didn't mean to come over 'all headmaster'-like.

It's not a belief system, or a 'theory' in the day-to-day meaning of the word.  The theory of gravity, theory of relativity and the theory of evolution are scientifically 'proven' by evidence.  They're not based on belief, they're...FACT (for want of a better word).

I don't understand what there's not to 'believe'.  I don't know of any biologists who don't agree with the theory of evolution.  Aren't they the best people to understand what is true or not?

As for us coming from monkeys, we don't.  We're actually apes, and so share a common ancestor with monkeys - but we didn't evolve from monkeys.

Thanks for the lesson "O great one"

I don't think I have mis-understood at all as highlighted here, if you where so fucking clever you will see that my point was that I didn't believe all that nonesense.

Any reason why you see to have taken on the mantle of headmaster on this forum, and why we should all agree with your (IMO rather long winded) opinions on evolution, religion and the likes??

Geo

TBH it was the headmaster - like tone of your post that tilted me more than anything. I refer you to Nirvana's post earlier in the thread regards a previous post you made.

Geo

I didn't mean to come over 'all headmaster'-like.

It's not a belief system, or a 'theory' in the day-to-day meaning of the word.  The theory of gravity, theory of relativity and the theory of evolution are scientifically 'proven' by evidence.  They're not based on belief, they're...FACT (for want of a better word).

I don't understand what there's not to 'believe'.  I don't know of any biologists who don't agree with the theory of evolution.  Aren't they the best people to understand what is true or not?

Indeed, next thing you know he'll be telling us that the universe does not revolve around the flat Earth!

the sun had a double page spread on aliens today with lots of polls they'd conducted. I can't tell you most of them 'cos I was just reading the paper in the cafe but I did take note of one.

13% of people believe pyramids are proof of alien existence

8% think stonehenge is proof, 16% cropcircles and a massive, and to my mind very scary, 18% believe that the fact there is ice on mars is proof of alien existence.
