Coin flips in cash games

In any cash game 100 bb deep.

As it tends to go there are always people that pull up short and go in to push bot mode, you look down to See

we raise for 5 x bb and short stack mug pushes for 20 bb.

We know he is on a small pair, we are almost positive we have overcards here.

do we call or wait for a better spot.

whats your general take and why

I love being the shortstack in these situations....it's a no lose situation really.

I call here if I'm the big stack BTW

you're calling 15BB to win 25. if you're sure it's a flip then you take it 100% of the time.

You're talking about waiting for a better spot. Should not be a common worry for cash game players.

because I can get you to fold the best hand regularly enough..(a good shorty can have a LOT worse than KQ here)..this allows me to pick up enough 5BBs to make this very profitable...and if you call I am more than llikely to be 50-50...that makes it a no lose.

Really, shortstack is the new black.

Well firstly in cash game we are simply taking a long +ev term view of everything . If we are getting +ev opportunity we take it.

In the hypothetical situation you give, lets assume the "mug" is the bb. Pot is 25.5bbs and we have to call 15bbs more, so we are getting 1.7 to 1 on our money or have to be 37% to win the hand.

Break even after playing about with poker stove is if villian has 77, aj+. So its a snap call if your read is right.

Fwiw 5 bbs is too big an open raise with any hand and you will rarely have this big of a read on your opponent.

The hands here are really immaterial, I was posing the question after a long cash session and it was one of the observations.

There were constantly shorties coming and going, once they built a stack to 3 x the buy in they would piss off, unmless they were stuck a few.

The constant stream of shortstacks trying to double was unrelenting, i have to admit I was a little off my game due to their randomness to push, it left me little or no room to play my trash. ( huff taken by me )
