The Lucky One

Do like a good sleepy weepy but nope, doesn't do the job. Promises way more than it delivers.

Zac Efron pretty incred but Taylor Schilling nowhere near up to the task.

Swerve imo

For anyone that has love film here's a totally random good film from left field. Its a Korean Film called 'the man from nowhere', I only watched it because it got good reviews, but its deffo worth a spin if you like action films.  Pretty powerful storyline too.

6.5/10

Watched a few good films this week:

Detachment - Adrian Brody depicting the emptiness of being a substitute teacher roaming from school to school. Pretty dark, but really enjoyable. 8/10, for anyone who has seen and liked the movie 'Precious' I think you would enjoy this.

I finally watched 'Garden State'. I had put it off despite positive reviews as I didn't think I would like Zach Braff, its a really nice film, had me laughing a lot and is actually quite moving. 7.5/10

American pie reunion - brought me back to the old days, loved the first 3 real american pies, don't think this was as good tbh, still laughed a lot though, a nostalgicv 6.5/10

21 Jump Street - soso funny. Never would have thought Channing Tatum would be good in a comedy like this but I was proved wrong, fans of superbad (which is in my top 3 fav comedies) should love this. Nice Teen/highschool comedy which makes you wish you were young again. 7.7/10

This means war - Shit. Done before, occasionaly funny line, but mainly just uber cheese, some ok action scenes though. 3/10

Get the Gringo aka what i did on my summer vacation, Mel Gibson is back with a bang, its billed as an action/drama and tbf it does have a fair bit of both as well as a touch of comedy. 7/10

Top-class work from Mel Gibson, even though he's turning into his South Park character, 9/10

Watched a couple of films over the weekend

Went to the cinema to watch 'The Dictator'

I'd say it's worth a watch, but don't go out of your way to watch at the cinema. There are some hilarious moments in it, but I didn't find it as hilarious as Borat and Bruno.

I'd give it a solid 7/10. I just hope he doesn't start to sell out.

Also finally got round to renting out shame on Blu Ray (directed by Steve McQueen stars Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan)

I really liked this film, but I feel a lot of people won't like it. Not a LOT actually happens so if action is your bag you'll find this boring. It's more about the characters. It follows a sex addict in New York, who kind of struggles along with his addiction, that is until his sister (who has issues of her own) finally gets in touch with him and asks to move in for a few days. He'll stop at nothing to gain gratification, and clearly with this comes some major issues on a daily basis linked to his work, his social life etc.

While there are some sex scenes throughout the film, they are shot in such a way that is not particularly 'pleasing to the eye at all' at all- deliberately so.

I love the way this film is shot generally as a kind of onlooker to the main character, and the music in the film is neatly used and it's difficult to say how the film made me feel but I'd definitely like to watch it again.

8.5/10

Watched Dark Shadows on Friday. Fairly typical Burton/Depp stuff. One of the weaker ones, I would say. Some excellent performances, Michelle Pfeiffer excellent, Eva Green good, Chloe Grace Moretz not so good. The ubiquitous Helena Bonham Carter does well though. Depp plays Depp, pretty much, and does ok. But the story is weak, you're not really rooting for anyone, the character interaction is very muddled.

Came out of it fairly meh. Funnily enough the wife liked it, and she's not usually a Burton fan. Has some funny moments, but if you've seen the trailer, you've pretty much seen them all.

I was hoping to like it, but I'd have to give it a disappointing 6/10.

Watched Avengers Assemble last week. Lots of reviews already, but I loved it, for what it was. Probably my favourite Marvel film so far. Definitely on the bluray list, 8.5/10.

The Dictator - Early candidate for worse film of the summer.  40 or so people in cinema, half walked out.  Wish I went to see The Raid instead.

The Artist out on dvd. Thought this would be a pompous stuffy affair after scooping at the oscars but none of it. Charming and sometimes funny, liked it a lot. Really ambitious project to make a silent movie in today's technical age so deserves all the credit. Great fist pump gamble for eveybody involved in production imo.

Watching the new Ridley Scott on Sun.
