Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" is a tremendous film

Firstly, Mantel's superb novel was thought to be unfilmable but what a job Lee does, with brilliant CGI its just about the best visual film you will see. The effects surpass Avatar imo

I was less taken with the "frame" story which I suppose had to provide a lot of context for the audience who might not have read the book, but nonetheless you just sit back and wallow in the sumptuousness of it all.

The journey of the Tiger and the lad is unbeatable. Terrific stuff

Yes, I normally don't do 3D and rail against it in an old fogey-ish sort of way but a film buff mate of mine told me to go 3D

Ang Lee is a brilliant director. I find three diamonds doesn't work for some films. It did for this.

Why does 3 D sometimes appear as the 3 of diamonds or sometime as 3 D? (I've added an intentional space)

Annoying.

Heard they are gonna stop making movies in 3D soon. Not made the money they expected from it and they are have stopped making 3D TVs already.

What's the next gimmick going to be then?

Heard from a delegate who went to the CES in Vegas last year that we would have roll up plasma screens soon enough lol.

4 D obv.

The fight scene will go to the right of your vision, then come out the left hand side, pacman style.

Just downloaded the book.  Would you have book>film Tighty?  Generally speaking I prefer reading over films and have had this on my list for a long time but I know if I watch the film first I almost certainly wont read the book although that isn't true in reverse.

There was a tele (Toshiba I think) on Stephen Fry's The Gadget Man last week, looked pretty good, £6.5k price tag though.  Apparently it tracks peoples eyes and adjusts the set accordingly and it can track up to 8 people at once.  Pretty snazzy.
