A place beyond the pines!
Rate= 7.5-10
I saw this film last night and with the choice on hand I'm still happy after watching it that I made the right choice.
The films far more complex than just a guy who robs banks to try and provide for his ex girl and baby boy.
Moments in the film where I've thought back to and asked myself does that have a meaning? I like films like that cos it makes me want to watch it again when rental or buy.

One moment where Luke Glanton played by Ryan gosling is on the telephone and I can't remember who to? Sad and why??
Although his acting is good along with Eva mendes, Bradley cooper seems to steal the light as a struggling cop dealing with events that happen. It was nice to see him playing a serious roll aside from hangover saga's(class in there own right). However no Oscar perf here.

I liked the music played throughout the film, reminded me of Film Driver but less electro.
However I still felt the film lacked depth an not knowing lukes life prior to current situation in film leaves me feeling kinda empty watching the film. Also relationships in the film seem weakly explored.
It was hard to feel any emotions for any characters except maybe for Luke's.
Ending kinda left open and feeling 'where to now?'

Only my opinion though, like to hear others if seen Smiley

I watched this today and absolutely loved it. I empathise with your comments about the ending but sometimes there's just nothing else you can do with it without it being described as overkill.

I really enjoyed the tone of the film which the soundtrack contributed to.

Actors were great, Gosling in particular.

You get 3 films for 1 in a way with this one and I'd go as far as giving it an 8.5

Iron Man 3. Disappointing, was expecting a lot better.

After IM2 I wasn't expecting much and I wasn't disappointed. IM > IM2 > IM3.

RoDowJu was awful. The Cineworld was packed and only two of his one-liners got a murmur.

Utter dross.

Also give it a 7.5/10 although disagree on some of your points

On the phone to Eva, getting her to promise not to tell Jason (his son) anything about him (the promise she kept)

Check out Silver linings playbook (where Cooper was nominated for best acting Oscar) & Limitless

He was a drifter, moved from town to town with the fair all pretty standard.

This film is ALL ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS

Luke & Mechanic friend
Luke & son Jason
Luke & Eva

Cop & Son
Cop & wife before & after divorce
Cop & Judge dad
Cop & workmates

Eva & new fella
new fella & Jason
Jason & AJ

It was already 2hrs 20, if they delved anymore into these relationships it would have been a 4hr epic, plus i think they did a deece job as it was.

*Drive, but agreed, great soundtrack. Really liked the song at the end, snap googled it (The Wolves (Act I and II) – Bon Iver)

I've fallen in love with a few zombies in my time, mostly at Joannas between 2000 and 2002...

Amazing what a phone alarm can do for your state of mind at 7am when you have to be back onboard by 745!!

I know there were a lot of radioactive patrons, but I can't say I ever managed to fall pregnant in there Grin

Looking forward to Hangover 3 about as much as I was looking forward to Police Academy 5.

New Star Trek top class btw, impossible to fault. Except maybe for Simon Pegg and Trevor Eve's granddaughter.

Hangover 2 was a dreadful lazy poorly scripted money making machine

Really looking forward to seeing how they extract every last drop from the franchise. Not

In STID, thought Pegg did the best Englishman doing a Canadian doing a Scotsman Scottish accent I have heard in a while. Enjoyed the film a lot.

Hoping both Star Trek and Hangover are better than their last ones, was disappointed in both cases but felt especially let down by Abrams.

Hangover is just a laugh, the cast have openly admitted they weren't as proud of #2 as they were of #1 but apparently #3 does it justice.. anyway you are both over 30 so probs just don't get it.

haven't seen it yet (assuming it's v good) but I'm not having that.

There is to be absolutely no faulting of Alice Eve in this thread.

Excuse me a moment...

Aaaaaand I'm back

Hangover part one was a splattery, echoing turd on the glass table of comedy. That there is a third installment seems to me an exercise in sadomasochism.

I digress.

I think I've mentioned this ITT before but I presented an idea to a few of the drama folk at uni about the world after the zombie apocalypse. The concept was the world through the eye of the zombie, struggling to rebuild society. No one liked it.

And here we are, ten years later. Obviously I should have added the teen love story.

Can't argue with this...

But her Hollywood-accepted English accent, and Pegg's Hollywood-accepted Scotch accent were the only things that marked STID down from a 10 to a 9/10 for me.

The rest of the cast were exceptional.

Tal, don't lose faith! They might crowbar a chess scene into Hangover 4.

Also about 10 yrs ago whilst sat in a pub with my mate I said they should do an animated movie from the pov of animals in a Zoo and 2 years later Madagascar came out! Someone from Dreamworks must have been ear wigging.
