Away We Go

Something very serendipitous about stumbling across this masterpiece imo.
It looked like it shouldn't be on the Huntingdon Cineworld schedule for some reason, especially not screening at 10.45am on a Sunday morning.
Of a normal week they'd reserve 12 screens for Ice Age 3 and one for some other pile of crap.
I didn't bother looking at the reviews, just saw it was directed by Sam Mendes (preferred Road To Predition and Revolutionary Road to American Beauty of his previous stuff, even though RR is hard work; also exec produced The Kite Runner, one of the best movies ever imo).
I was the only one in there, which was nice and surreal.
Defo top ten of 2009 material for me.
Anyone else seen it?

Watched a new one called    PANDORUM  tonight

Dennis Quaid is the captain of a space freighter in deep space that has a problem when the crew turn into killer zombies

They are in hyper sleep when the ship wakes  them up,

OK its another Resident Evil in space  again , filmed in darkness and only lit by torchlight

4 out of ten

On TV , Stargate Universe has started in USA,

The new series starts very much like SG Atlantis , with a crew arriving on an ancients starship, that has 9 dialing chevrons instead of 8.

There are many new cast members, who are 18 to 25, to appeal to younger viewers,

and cameo appearances from Jack O'Neil and Amanda Tapping.

Only Robert Carlyle is the familiar face of the "Clever Scientist".

It starts very slow with 90 minutes of the 2 part pilot, ( thats with no add breaks ) so it will be at least 2 hours long on Sky

If the later episodes fit the usual format of a 1 hour show it may be watchable

The pilot was far too long and slow

Heres the trailer

Trick R Treat - 4/5, great stuff and would have got 5/5 if not just 82 mins long...it deffo needed another 1/2 hour to tie up the story, how this did'nt get a cinema release...no idea when crappy Saw sequels and terrible Halloween remakes do...pfft! no torture porn here some actual decent tension...

I enjoyed Drag Me To Hell, its done in an old school horror way and tongue in cheek, not to be taken too seriously (like Sam Raimi's own Evil Dead 2), it was a change to most recent horrors been a selection of people been tortured with no story...

Some good recent horrors imo...The Mist, The Strangers, Eden Lake, and the above Trick R Treat.

Just borrowed my nephew to go watch 'Up'.

Possibly the best yet imo from Pixar, who never get it wrong. Top class.
