The Best offer (2013) really really really good 9/10
Would never have known about this film without the recommendation and thoroughly agree with the really really really good rating.
Cheers Trigg.
Watched it last night. A solid 7.5/10 for me, very enjoyable but unfortunately I soul read the whole thing from early doors. I think I probs went into it over thinking things because of your high reviews.
Keep the tips coming Trigg, you hold the crown for my fav film ever to be tipped up with 'The Intouchables / Untouchable', if people haven't seen it then get it watched now! So good!

I have tried to start watching films again.
It is funny beacuse it feels like such a commitment to sit down for 2 hours, but I would happily watch three or more episodes of a TV show I was watching with no sweat.
Mainly dumb stuff recently however:
Anchorman 2; ok. Original was better though a few funny bits 6/10
Adultworld; pretentious but fun 7/10
I also rewatched Casino. Haven't seen it since I owned it on VHS! Quality viewing love Scorcese (who doesn't?). Wolf of WS fav film in ages. 8.2/10

I'm not sure when, but I heard the other week that there is a second version of Anchorman 2, where they essentially have a completely different set of ad libs. Essentially, like a set of B-sides.
I think it is for cinema release, so fans of that might want to investigate.
Not for me; I'd sooner sit in silence.

From my tracker:
"The rated and unrated versions are pretty much two completely different films. The plot is the same, but almost every single joke is swapped out. I think I saw Will Ferrel claim that over 700 jokes were changed? So keep that in mind when uploading and/or watching."

Yeah seen it already. Very good film. Worst nightmare being put in that spot!
Had a German film recommended to me called 'soul kitchen'. Will post up if it's any good.

Defo swerve soul kitchen. It's actually a comedy and a pretty cheesey one at that.
Keeping on the foreign film genre headhunters and city of god are must watches.

Watched a film called 'The Battery' yesterday. About 2 guys surviving in a post apocalyptic zombie type world but it's not at all cheesy and has some incred scenes if you stick with it.
For fans of TWD it is a must watch.

Grand Budapest Hotel
Need to change my view that all Wes Anderson films are just shite. Even nirvana 'got' this one. Sound recommendation from he'm.
Solid 7/10

A Long Way Down
Film adaptation of a Nick Hornby novel. You know what you're getting. BBC Film. Ditto.
The concept? Four people meet at the top of a tower, each intending to jump off. We learn about what led them to get there and it's a classic model, reminiscent of the Wizard of Oz about how and where they go from there.
It isn't going to win every award going, but it is a genuine, charming way of touching on a deeply dark and emotive subject. I've seen some reviews criticising it for being superficial and not exploring the issues more. I think that's missing the point. It doesn't make itself out to be Dallas Buyer's Club and it doesn't give its characters any real room to tell you about everything that's wrong. We get enough of a window to get the idea and that has to do.
Aaron Paul from off of Breaking Bad shows us he can tackle a troubled soul of a different breed. Toni Collette has the most difficult issues to deal with and she copes with a beautiful sincerity that must touch even the most manly of souls. Pierce Brosnan is not my favourite actor in the world but he plods along without doing any damage. Isobelle Poots is becoming one of my absolute favourites. You might remember her from 28 Weeks Later. She takes the easy comedic points with a beguiling dryness and portrays her role as the unloved daughter with sensitivity and real heart. I hope she gets more work in bigger roles.
My own take of it was that the script was the biggest problem. I've not read the book, so don't know how close it was to the original and don't know how constrained they were with what they were allowed to do. Would seem unfair to hold the cast to account for the failings of the material they were given.
It is a film that does enough in every department but not much more in any. A good way to spend a couple of hours, though.
7/10

I don't go to the cinema very often. When I do, it is usually to see something absolutely terrible like
Ted
or
Superbad
and I end up feeling like I'd have been happier having kept the £7.60. I'm glad I went today.
