The Man From Earth. At a retirement party for a Professor he surprises his guests by telling them he is 14000 years old. Apparently it only cost $200K to make, it is filmed in a log cabin and it's just a few people asking him questions about his life. No action, no CGI, just a good story well told. 8/10 on IMDB and I would agree with that

Star Wars was never winning this anytime soon, it has very little chance of getting the gay vote, which is a huge proportion of the watching audience.

Shawshank
Star Wars
Great Escape

Never seen Godfather so that could be a contender soon.   Will watch in the next week or so.

Comparing the Threads films that were rated as 9+/10 in the whole thread (upto January 2014), vs the Nations top 10 films. * Noting that some of the Top 10 films won't have been rated on this thread.  Be interesting what we think to the nations films, and what rating we'd give those.

Mad Max Fury Road

Had a rare Fajita Friday sans Fajitas which was disappointing...

Quite enjoyed this as from from the off until the final moments we were subjected to one elongated Car chase sequence..The pace was utterly relentless and the action and stunts are some of the best I've seen captured for the big screen..so caps must be doffed to the stuntmen and CGI boys..

There seemed little dialogue ( although little was needed due to said action ).. Tom Hardy must have been kicking back smiling at how few lines he had to learn.. I'm pretty sure apart from some well timed grunts and roars he didn't utter a word until 45 minutes in. Even when a bunch of super models emerged from their hiding place on the truck he was driving he didn't say sod all...just pointed a gun at them and grunted..seriously needs to work on his pulling routine that boy... square jaws and ridiculous handsomeness only get you so far..so I've heard anyway.

Charlize Theron is almost unrecognizable as a one armed co lead ( but still strangely sexy, might just be me that one ) .. who runs Hardy close for best part..

The ending felt a little contrived and rushed,  as though the makers got to a point a short time after they had finished slapping each other on the back for producing an epic action flick and realised they hadn't thought how it was going to end... Other than that thouroughly enjoyed it and one of the best action pics for a good while

Action Junkies will love it ..proper brain to neutral and enjoy the ride..literally

A strong 7.5

Came across a, I think, great documentary movie - 'All this Mayhem' about a couple of aussie skaters.

Run All Night 2015. Liam Neeson's family are in danger from the mob so Liam kills them all and saves his family. I was waiting for a twist or maybe a touch of humour. Didn't get any. Would prefer to watch an old episode of the Equalizer or even the A-Team than this. 2/10

The Station Agent 2003. Peter Dinkage is a train spotter who is fed up with people laughing at him so he attempts to get away from it all. Delightful film, very funny in an understated, chilled out kinda way. 8/10

Old age appears to have crept up on me.

Kingsman was a film I never would have watched were it not for so many people saying how surprisingly good it was, and it was every bit as good as everyone said. Such a surprise package. 10/10
