I've been driving for 13 years, but in recent months I've noticed that there seems to be a hell of a lot of suicidal birds on the road. It's never happened to me before this year, but so far I'd estimate something like 10 birds have swooped down and flown directly in front of my car when I've been driving at speed. Is this a new phenomenon? Has anyone else noticed it? It freaks me out a tiny bit, as it's always the birds that act up when something awful is about to happen to the world in a disaster movie

birds in the ukraine do this. for 6 months of the year there are millions of little birds, not sure what they are but like small swallows, and they sit in huge groups either on the road or by the side of it. when they hear a car come along they all take off and basically panic. some fly away from the car while others who were perfectly safe before aim straight at it. you probably hit one/one hits you about every 10 minutes while driving around.
doesn't happen on the main highways though as there's a constant stream of cars to scare them away.
then you get the occasional eagle that swoops at the car but they're not so stupid and get out the way before you hit them, I think they're just being inquisitive.

Hopefully you take the recommended break every 3/4 hours to avoid tiredness?

Down in this neck of the woods its bunny and pheasant squishing season.
It's harder to miss them than hit the little beggers.
