Probably not, but this is pretty messed up.

Georgia and Russia are officially at war...that's what happens when I go up North for a weekend and don't log on to Blonde!

I'm rubbish at international politics, and I keep on reading about how absolutely horrid the Russians are being bombing the crepe out of poor little innocent Georgia.

But I'm wondering what kicked it all off.

The Russians are saying they're protecting the Ossetians against Georgian attriocites.  The Georgians are blaming Russia for invading.

I know it's going to be clear as mud, and loads of Chinese whispers.  But are the Georgians the innocent party here, suffering under the nasty Russians.

Or did they bring this on themselves ?

Bit of both really from my understanding. I think it's safe to say the Russian are going a bit OTT bombing the crap out of everything they see and they are moving dangerously close to "annexing" Georgia again but Georgia is not a completely innocent party in this...apparently.

I need to do some research into this one but it's fascinating stuff and not something I expected to see.

Surely the last thing anyone needs is for Russia to start flexing its military muscles.

They could maybe surreptitiously supply weapons and training for an ongoing 'resistance' against the Russians, then when they've driven the Russians out use a thin connection to terrorism, rebrand them terrorists and invade their country?

Oh yeah, done that one in Afghanistan.

As per usual, it's the main reason for people to get involved. For the Russians it's very important but they also have a pride thing going on here..and that might be more dangerous than if it were for purely economic reasons.

I think when the dust settles we'll see that the Germans are responsible for this entanglement in some shape or form.
