Played at Luton tonight, was the £50 + £50 add one re-buy or add-on. 30 runners approx, started 5 handed as guy to my right hadn't turned up but his ticket was there and was being blinded away. Anyway, first 15 mins or, table had a nice atmosphere, plenty of chat and light-heartedness etc. THEN, Mr latecomer turns. Now, as far as i was aware Luton brought a rule when they opened the new casino regarding trainers, it's been well documented on blonde and is being discussed currently i think on the BB thread. This guy turns up, unshaven, shirt hanging out, scruffy jeans and WHITE (ish) trainers ffs. Also, im not sure but im sure i could smell alcohol from him, either that or some dodgy cheap aftershave. Hope it was his aftershave as he had just proclaimed to the table that he had driven like a maniac from Milton Keynes to get there. ( i wish he hadn't bothered, and i'm sure the rest of the table hadn't either).

I had just lost the majority of my first stack and had 400 chips left. The blinds were 25-50 and the villain makes an EP raise to 225. I look at one card (ace) and decided to put my 400 in the middle. It folds round to the villain who hums and hah's ohh i might fold blah blah, any way eventually he calls with 66 and fistpumps the 6 on the flop ffs.

Now im annoyed. My 2nd lot of chips are down to 3800 and i have to fold JJ to the villains all in bet on a A K 9 flop. He shows QQ. Fair enough. Well played.

Then, for me the worst thing. He has an accomplice who is playing on the other table!!! This become apparent when he makes another EP raise to 300 so i instashove my AK hearts, again it folds round to him and he has a think, i know im in front etc he is saying, usual trash talk. So eventually he calls and tables 22, i turn over my AK and we are off to the races. flop 9A9, at this point his friend is right on my shoulder and i can here him chanting for the deuce. turn blank, river 2!!! Now i'm not a bad loser, never have been but when the deuce hit the river i could clearly hear his mate laughing right in my ear. I dont know how i kept my cool to be honest. He offered me a handshake and the usually 'unlucky mate' bollocks and i'm sorry. Of course you are my friend.

Never mind, i head straight to the smoking cage to have a cigarette to try and calm myself down. I go back in and the remaining players are milling around on a break when the villains friend comes up to me to ask me how many chips i have?Huh?? Ffs give me a break, do i need that sort of rubdown? I think not.

Has anyone else ever experienced this sort of crap? Am i over reacting? I've never been this annoyed after a poker game, which for me should be a bit of fun. But to be honest, i'm seriously considering never going back to Luton whilst they allow these type of individuals into the casino.

I managed to get a sneaky photo of them on my phone and will download as soon as i work out how to do it ( if thats ok with the mods?) to see if anyone know who they are or have come accross them before.

Rant over!!!!

This is the kind of thing I've come to expect from the Luton 'G', letting borderline tramps in, despite the no-trainer rule being strenuously enforced all last week. There's just no consistency.
During the festival anyone turning up in trainers was told they had to go to Matalan to pick up a pair of shoes.
This guy tonight, though, seemed to get the wrong end of the stick. He'd clearly been to Matalan but had replaced all other articles of clothing and kept the trainers. I will be lodging a complaint.
The standard of play was awful too. Here's my exit hand...
Blinds just gone up to 200-400, I was small blind, had 5,600 back.
Villain Mk II, who had around 7,000, limped mid, button limped, I made up the blind with J3, BB checked.
Flop came 3 7 9 rainbow. I checked, as did the other three.
Turn came a J. Nice!
I check it knowing it's never going to get checked round again. BB checked, Villain Mk II bet 1200, button passed.
I bet 2800, leaving back 2800.
BB folds
VMII has a good think and then shoves with QQ.
The river was a 9.
The trainer-wearing fella's words of 'Unlucky Chompy' offered scant consolation.

Sorry guys but I think what he was wearing is irrelevant, it's between him and Grosvenor.

The fact that he played badly and got lucky is also irrelevant. (MHO of course)

was more his and his friends behaviour. If you let people in dressed like this then Grosvenor are asking for trouble IMO.

Tom,

i was told by the management at luton when it 1st opened that under no circumstance would anyone be allowed in with footwear that even looked like trainers, because and i qoute 'people that wear trainers normally bring trouble with them' Well they certainly let trouble in tonight, thats for sure!!!

They even refused snatty entrance once cos he wore some footwear that looked like trainers, so why the sudden rule change after 18 months. Disgusts me. Ruined my night, thats a certainty!!!!

I don't see why what someone else is wearing should bother you. Do you refuse to play in other cardrooms where trainers are allowed?

In all honesty, would you have even mentioned it if the guy hadn't knocked you out, if you had won your race and gone on to win the comp? I think not.

Sorry, but you did specifically ask for opinions.

i wouldnt have mentioned it if his and his mate weren't giving me rubdowns etc. i lose races all the time. it doesnt bother me, it never will, if i would have knocked him out the tourney i would have still come on tonight and moaned about them. Simple as that really.

As poker players we shouldn't have to put up with this type of behaviour IMO.

With regards to his clothing then i don't see why Grosvenor suddenly let this type of person in wearing clothing that they feel is worn by trouble makers. Just my opinion of course.

With respect. I said I agree about the behaviour, but the clothing is irrelevant, as are the outdraws, but those two points constituted a fairly large proportion of your original rant.
