what basis are people coming up with the spend more time in the gym stuff? He's always seemed pretty dedicated on any of the stuff on him. Certainly looks to have amore professional set up than say hatton.
No, he's certainly spent time in the gym. He bulked up a hell of a lot. It's not the physical side we're talking about. How much serious sparring has he done? How much time and effort has been put into studying his opponent, improving his defence, his fight strategy?
Hatton is a student of the game. He spends hours studying his opponents, studying his own fights, trying to improve.
How exactly do you train someone to take a punch? I always thought that was something natural- I'm not just talking about last nigh either. The little Scottish bloke had him on his backside v easily too.
Like I said, any fighter who can bang a bit will put down an opponent if they're given a free shot. The answer is don't get hit on the button. This involves working on your defence in terms of your guard, your foot-work, distance, working behind your jab, etc. However, Khan wanted to come out against a hard-hitting opponent with his head hanging out asking to be hit. He'd been floored twice before by opponents who certainly weren't world-class. So what does that suggest? To me it suggests he was too easy to hit. But we all knew this and expected him to have concentrated on this for this fight.
Of course there are some fighters who appear to have heads made from granite who seem to be able to take a huge amount of punishment. You can can do some training in this area (develop neck muscles, etc.), but I suspect that it's virtually all natural thing that you have or you haven't got. Khan hasn't, obviously.
Don't boxing people always talk about big knockouts making people more prone tobeing knocked out again? They were very heavy knockouts, not just legs going, his head nearly hit the floor at the same time.
I don't think it's a cause and effect thing. I think it's rather the case of a fighter who is prone to getting tagged by big shots will get tagged with big shots again.
He can still be managed to a world title but he will never be a great imo.
One of the alphabet spaghetti world titles is certainly a possibility (probability?). But he'll have to improve on his defence and his overall fight strategy if he's going to operate at the top of his division.
